Yes. Don't use mastercard. They got 1% extra and even Agoda fully refund, you will lose another 1% too.
Everyone please be aware of this dirty trick of theirs which is not found in other travel websites. I have just cancelled my hotel stay and the refund is indeed minus 1% when they claim that it is a full refund.

u use DBS mastercard? DBS is the 1 that take the money. Citibank refund that 1% DCC charge. DBS always charge DCC/FX fee for refunds. need to write in to get waiver. troublesome.

so in future we should do "pay now" in SGD

if found rate for rebook we just cancel the old booking and wait for refund correct?

the extra 5% really hidden deep deep in agoda t&c :(

Yes, display Agoda website in SGD, choose pay now in SGD, use Visa card.

If price drop just cancel and rebook.

In this case, the additional charge is imposed by the bank, not Agoda.

If you display Agoda in THB and choose to pay in THB after keying in your card info, Agoda will charge the exact amount showing on the website. As an example, if you use DBS Visa Debit Card linked to a MCA account with enough THB balance to pay, you will be charged exact same THB amount, and will receive 2% cashback in the next month, provided the conditions for cashback are met (minimum spend of S$500 on Visa and cash withdrawals limit of S$400 and below in the same month).

This is a good way to 'clear' foreign currency balance in your MCA account, or clock spending for credit card sign-up bonus if foreign currency spending is required (e.g. CITI Prestige).

Yes this happened to me now. It is really weird. I use Agoda.com.sg and use Singapore credit card and also the website to show SGD too. However, at the end, in the bill, the merchant became Agoda Hong Kong and let the bank charged 1% more for CC conversion fee too. This is a sort of cheating. They made customer pay for thier money transfer to Hong Kong. Idiot Agoda.

I got this too. Charged by Agoda HK although using agoda sg and in SGD.
Then I also realised they (quietly changed) my residence as Hong Kong. Refused to refund the 1% back. Super pissed.

Years ago Expedia SG also charged 1% fee but always refund back.

I just made a non cancellation hotel booking on agoda. But it is a non credit card booking and I just need to pay at the property itself when I arrive. So if I want to cancel, what penalty can agoda impose since they don’t have my credit card details?

Just noticed agoda pricing is cheaper if you search the hotel in Google compared to directly using the app.

Did a few comparison prices after agoda promo/discount
Google link - $360
Agoda app direct - $400
Shopback link - $430

Wonder how much I have overpaid in the past. Usually I compare using the various ota app directly and shopback before booking direct..
I always thought booking directly will be cheaper since no referral fees need to be paid to shopback etc.

the pricing is different for different hotel. some hotel can be google link cheaper, some hotel can be agoda cheaper and even some hotel can be another 3rd party link to agoda cheaper.
i saw all this happening when i book hotel from agoda.

Cheaper way is to google for each bank and agoda deal, like agoda.com/hsbc. Then use this link to get 15-20% off normal prices. Phone will open app and desktop will open webpage.

Just encountered the extra 1% fee using Mastercard too. For those in similar situations, did you manage to get that 1% refunded from Agoda or bank or do you just suck it up? Not sure if its worth the hassle to dispute...
