Just encountered the extra 1% fee using Mastercard too. For those in similar situations, did you manage to get that 1% refunded from Agoda or bank or do you just suck it up? Not sure if its worth the hassle to dispute...

years ago Expedia does this, then they will refund the 1% and eventually switch to SG processor and this nonsense stopped.

And now Agoda start this nonsense and payments are processed in HK or UK. They refused to refund even after repeated attempts. Agoda's price inconsistency is the worse too, different links, different prices. Expedia and Trip.com is more stable

Depends on whether your hotel is originally priced in NTD.

If your hotel is originally priced in NTD, after keying in your card information, there may be an 'Charge me in' option to select. If you select SGD, you will kena 5%. Otherwise if you select NTD or the selection is not available, you will be charged exact NTD amount showing on the final page on payment date.

If your hotel is not originally priced in NTD, you will kena 5% no matter what currency you select.

To check whether your hotel is originally priced in NTD, go to the final page before confirmation. If there is a line 'You chose a future price: payment by you in NT$ will be due on XX XX 2024; On that date, a NT$ amount will be calculated from XXX and charged to you, subject to these terms affecting your price.', it means your hotel is NOT originally priced in NTD.

Guys, quick check. My agoda hotel booking is in Thai baht. But when I make the booking time, I using sgp issued credit card. Can I make the payment using thai baht instead?

Thinking of using ichange baht wallet coz currently thai baht rate is good.

Yes can. Display Agoda website in THB. After keying in your Singapore card information, if there is a selection for pay in THB or SGD, choose THB. It's also alright if the selection is not available. Then Agoda will charge you card in THB in the exact amount showing on the webpage.

Are you asking the CS to do the charging? Otherwise I don’t see why you cannot pay in the local currency of the hotel.

Yes, I asking them to do the charging in thai baht instead. Because in my ichange wallet, i have ready thai baht. But they refuse. Seem like they will bill me in thai baht converted to sgd to my sgd credit card

Agoda side, yes.

AFAIK, YouTrip doesn't have fee for SGD transaction processed overseas.

Yes. Payment by sgd visa is processed in sg. So.there should not be extra charges if u use an sg card. Also, the spot rate use by agoda is with minimal margin. So don't make sense for you to charge in foreign currency unless the card rewards > fx charge from your bank. (Not forgetting u can earn rewards on sgd spend)

Debit Mastercard doesn't have dcc on Agoda. I use amaze linked to uob lady to rebook and doesn't have additional dcc fees.

There is no DCC fee (which is charged by merchant or third party operators). It's fee imposed by your card issuer (UOB in your case) for processing SGD transaction made overseas. Since fee for SGD transaction made overseas is clearly stated on UOB credit card terms, I don't think you can get back.

Also, this fee has nothing to do with credit or debit card. It's Amaze that does not charge fee for SGD transaction made overseas. AFAIK, ICBC credit cards (e.g. ICBC Global Travel MasterCard) also does not have fee for SGD transaction made overseas.

Agoda is still processing payments outside Singapore, so 1% DCC applies. They still refuse to "refund" this 1%.
Irony is the legal entity they using is a Singapore-registered entity.

Side note, dont use their "book now pay-later" option as there will be a 5% extra charge
