Hi all
I just made a booking from Agoda, the rate i have seen is in SGD and after booking i was informed that i will be charged in Foregin currency , which is like S$7 more expensive than booking from the hotel direct.

What would you do if you were me?

do u mean u will be charged the SGD equivalent of the Foreign Currency ?

if book direct is cheaper, u should book direct ... make sure Agoda booking is free to cancel

it wld be clearer if you share what are the rates you are seeing

normally would book with ota like agoda, then pay agoda based on the current amount in sgd ... or opt for pay later ... wont opt for pay at hotel ...

Learnt something new today about Agoda booking ...

I was puzzled why I could not apply Agoda's Worldwide 10% discount code to a specific room type in a hotel, whereas the discount could be applied to another room type in the same hotel.

I realised those rooms not eligible for 10% are rooms that Agoda is selling on behalf of Booking.com. There is a note explaining it.

This could also explain why the discount could not be applied to some hotels, if these are not offered by Agoda directly.

Better to book wisely

Say u book with a gift card for a free cancellation booking. Then you want to cancel in the future but the gift card already pass its expiry.

You will forfeit the gift card.

haha your gift card quite big amount ...

I think so especially I have a few gift cards, all expiring at different dates.

You're lucky, usually they are quite strict with their rules.

Yup... they said since i have been booking with them for many years, hence they extended the expiry date for my gift card ...

Good to know that, I've been using them for many years now too and didn't know the gift cards can be extended. I just used up a partial amount for a booking in Muar, do not want to waste it before the expiring date of 11 May 2018. The expiry date is usually quite short.

Recently switched to Agoda from Expedia.

Just completed several Agoda hotel stays, booked using the worldwide 10% discount and CIMB MasterCard.

Transactions on ShopBack are being tracked, & hopefully will be credited for 6%.

For Expedia, ShopBack 6% is awarded on full transaction amount whereas on Agoda, it's only on amount less taxes.

Agoda also awarded "Gift Cards" for each stay, amounting to another 3.8% of value which can be & combined & used for next booking

Expedia no longer has 2x Best Price Guarantee and recently prices have been higher ...

so Agoda seems to provide better value.

My ShopBack for Agoda bookings with Agoda codes have been confirmed.

This confirms able to stack Agoda 10% code + ShopBack + CC rebate, and also get Agoda gift cards :s12:

for my Agoda "pay now free cancel" bookings, I got back the exact same amount refunded after cancellation. I am not sure if this is CC dependent though. I used DBS & CIMB.

unlike Expedia, the refund will be 0.8% to 1% less depending on how much DCC the CC charges.

at point of booking, I dont think anyone can say for sure Pay-Now FX will be more favourable than Pay-Later FX on a future date.

that said, if you are happy with current rate, choose Pay Now to eliminate all uncertainties.

Seems like most of you guys get full refund with pay now free cancel. That's great, then "pay now" is an option i will use with no qualms. My post mentioning the less refund for pay now refund was from online complaints, not confirmed by personal experience. Apologise for that.

However, pay now fx and pay later fx difference is an agoda scam. That portion I have confirmed. You will definitely pay more if you press "pay later", regardless whether fx changes to favour you. Tried and tested.

You are doing yourself a favour to choose "pay now".

I prefer agoda cause the charge as-is n refund for cancellation is 100%. For others u need to write in then maybe they will refund u the difference.

Also easy to change the name for checkin person if have any changes.

When Citibank has -15% off Expedia then is worth.

Sometimes use hotels.com for free night.

Compare the diff.

agree with u ... agoda normally u pay how much, they refund u back
expedia would have the currency conversions ...

15% is considered alot in Singapore instance for Expedia .
Normally is 10% ... sometimes app price seems lower too ...

Yeah oceanicmanta, how do you do that? I always don't see the coupon box when I use the link from Shopback. And to think I have been booking so many trips from Agoda recently. :(

Should be specific link ...
those from shopback usually cant apply the promo code successfully ...

though the price from the shopback link and the specific link for promo code differs few dollars per nite ...

Normally agoda would give 5% or 10% discount into your account
they would also mail to you the 5% promo discount from time to time.
but the promo u would not be able to use on the shopback link page ...
