The XM1 is very noisy is it? How about night mode? Considering to buy it from ntuc.

All APs low speed and night modes are extremely quiet. Even a 99 dollar Sharp A28.

Both versions can be controlled by the app.

Short ans - If you have allergies and are susceptible to haze, go for the Samsung AX40. Especially so if you are banking to use in the MBR and BTO living room, in which the AX40 is really silent n optimised for such areas.

But for extremely light sleepers and/or in those ultra small BTO bedrooms (not MBR), you might need XM2....or any other APs with medium speed. Your ACH/Air Change per Hour would take a big hit, but still works with haze....and you'd sleep nicely due to the lower SPL.

Substitute the Mfresh M8088A in speed 2 with the Samsung AX40 noise in highest fan speed (they are around the same, used to measure the SPL and also real life A-B comparison). You get the idea. Samsung AX40 is 323 m3/hr. The XM2 is in jet mode, 388 m3/hr.

Compared directly in a way, the XM1 is supposed to be slightly louder than the XM2.

Another just as important factor is the external loading. Quite a few of us with meters experienced the true impact last year with the 2015 indon haze (China gets to levels significantly higher even).

Give example. Meter shows this, which is very high a level.

oOXZ4Rs.jpg

Note the meter on the right. 1119.
In a approx 30m3 room which is like the size of a 4-room BTO living room which is pretty leaky from the room's toilet which has a 15x20cm hole and plastic folding doors with big gaps below and the 2 windows made up if non-airtight metal panes, plus door has big gaps below, a 319 m3/hr Midea air purifier was only able to clean this down to about 200. Or 82% drop

In another room, this 319 m3/hr Midea AP + a Sharp A40 with 210 m3/hr or total of 530m3/hr managed to clean the air to about 70. Or 91% drop. But also, the windows are sliding type with rubber gaskets, and no toilet. Door has same big gap below.

High external loading is no joke. Really need to plug the leaks, of coz not to the extent of 99.9% tight such that CO2 levels also rise until buay lin chu. :s22:

I have posted quite a fair bit on AX40 filter options. There is a DIY option which is extremely simple to do, and it's only RMB25 (in fact, this DIY HEPA filter at rmb25 in the AX40 is working right beside me in the room right now :s13:). It works ok, gives you about 200 m3/hr CADR and 19W. Do a search.

This year's haze is really not expected to be like last year, so no need to go overboard. It can start any time from the start of June, which is the main traditional dry season for Sumatra, shortly followed by Kalimantan.

End Mar-beginning Apr is more like "special scenario". Eg Malaysia could flare up. It is the dry phase of the NE monsoon....but this year doesn't seem to be as dry as expected actually. So no worries.

Bonus pic for those China FFUs modified to become home APs of 1500 m3/hr.

That big piece of white thing 70mm thick is the H14 HEPA. After that is the activated charcoal.

I search on TB the HEPA you mentioned, cannot find the RMB25 one.

If lydat, isn't going all to AX40 better

Concept - It's basically this one, then you DIY cut. Sides gotta cut, roll up and stuff some of the plastic PE packaging so that it reduces bypass at the sides.

For me it's just a 5-10 min job. The good thing is that it's so cheap, you can change every 3 months, 4 months.....whatever. No worries about HEPA smelling up, it's literally disposable.

Well, no, some people hate DIY. It really depends. I have also stocked the original AX40 filters, 2 of them. Bot during last year Dec promo. sgd 49.90 each shipped.

For me is long time AP user, multi units and multi homes (3 of them). Indonesia also got base. 9 years already. Recurring costs matter heckloads to me. If I use IQAir, filter costs would cost ard a typical Jap car month instalment. :s13:

Just an illustration. This is DIY on the A28, with the exact same "commoner HEPA" filter. In this case, I used tissue paper. But later I found that using the HEPA plastic packing of PE sheets is better.
