On a daily basis u guys use which color de filter? My toddler niece is always coughing and i want to buy one for her to try...

Kids' chronic cough/nose allergic airway inflammation type of issues may or may not be due to allergens, but it's a good way to start and also to compliment medical help. After all it's probably better than daily use of nasal steriods, cough mixtures, mucolytics like Flumicil, antihistamines.
The idea is to cut down on the airway tracts inflammation, let the body heal the airway, and after that once things are healed hopefully the body is no longer as sensitive as before. The whole cycle might take many months, maybe even 1 or 2 years.

Just to share for all the folks here, an AP would significantly cut down on any allergens or shiat that might be in the air, but remember it must be operating at a decent enough airflow flowrate.

Aim for at least 5 room ACH air change per hour preferably 7-8 ACH. Unfortunately even with a Samsung AX40 kind of performance on Taobao filters (TB "HEPA" filters are flowing around 70% of the originals), that is just enough for Singapore's smallest normal bedroom in our BTOs (eg 3.5m by 3m bedroom).

The ever popular Xiaomi APs are also sufficient, unfortunately the noise levels might be a bit high for many here. So you just might need 2pcs of that for these sensitive people (luckily the footprint is pretty small).

For a MBR size be it BTO or the bigger and older flats, it is literally a must to operate 2 APs unless you are wearing earplugs to sleep.

An Air purifier would not help much if the source allergens are not cut out and if the allergens are not airborne. Usual good places to look would be the kids pillows, bedsheets and bolster. If you have a rug or carpet in the room, ditch it.
An anti dustmite cover might help. The allergen is really the dust mite droppings (heavy, not easy to be disturbed till the airborne stage) and in this case the AP is not that useful. But i think usually this does not trigger cough but more of nose issues.

You might want to check on the aircon FCU water drainage pan as well, and also do a chemical wash. Nowadays i do my own DIY cleaning every month with the pressure washer (need to use a 120 deg pattern spray else it'd screw up the cooling fins), at most 2 months if i had been lazy. Also i use a commercial aircon detergent cleaner that i have gotten from Taobao. It's not the alkaline or acidic coil cleaners as those would corrode the fins if used too frequently, actually not more than 3X for the whole lifetime of the aircon FCU if you ask me.
For those who are interested you can check the "Do you DIY clean your aircon FCU" thread.

Just some pics. In this case the possible allergen is the mold spores.

Drainage pan, though it probably isn't that easy for the mold flakes/spores to get into the airflow, compared to those in the insides or esp on the fan blades.

Xiaomi Gen 2S is not expensive on carousell.

Go for the Xiaomi gen 2 AP, ease and cheapness of replacement filters.
Gen 2 is probably a bit better in certain ways for our SG rooms as it has a smaller footprint etc.

If budget is tight, another option is picking up a relatively new second hand from carousell.

Some have scored good gems for not much money, eg I picked up a literally brand new (1 year) Samsung AX40 at just 80 dollars (SG retail $450, qoo10 get for S$270). Another pax i remember got it at $50 only. It's a 320m3/hr machine with good noise performance when on original samsung filters, TB filters at about $6 per piece turns it into an approx 240 m3/hr machine.
Use it at max speed of 240m3/hr, not that noisy.

Replacement filter just go Taobao pickup filters that more or less can fit, then plug up the gaps with bubble wrap or plastic wrapping.

Downside is more work on filters search (buy in bulk), second hand AP = opening it up to clean with rubbing alcohol or something to get rid of any smells or what (ABS wont be affected no issue). As good as new. The Samsung AX40 is a workhorse that will last many many years, so are Sharp APs.

Will work, trust me, we have done the measurements.

Xiaomi gen 2 AP
Samsung AX40
Sharp APs

Which one most quiet?

Is it all about same cleaning effectiveness?

Is Xiaomi gen 2 AP most value for money?

If too noisy I cannot sleep.

Thanks.

Samsung AX40 is the quietest considered that you set all the APs at the same airflow speed. Or rather, you set other APs to be at the same as the AX40.

AX40 would give you about 5-6 air change per hour for the MBR at high.

There are models in the Sharp lineup, ie the Sharp A80, which would give a little bit less noise for the same airflow. However, it is significantly more expensive and bigger than the AX40.

That said, if you are a very light sleeper, you'd still need to move the Samsung AX40 to be at least 2 metres away from your ears, preferably as far away as possible and out of the line-of-sight from your ears when you are sleeping on the bed. There are no air purifiers which are very silent while churning out ~ 250-300 m3/hr, except maybe for the big Taobao cleanroom modified units for home use. Very big stuff and filters are very big too, so the airflow past the filters and output is very slow, but still airflow m3/hr is high.
