It's a significant jump from XM1. They really made everything more "efficient".

They will come out further improvements in XM ones... u can have XM3 onwards soon...

i've heard about people changing cars, changing homes, and now with this discussion, changing APs

i'm intending to get a XM2 eventually for my current home (4rm HDB i think 65 sqm) and use the XM2 for my own room, while the XM1 should go to the hall. my parents are the "carefully breathe can already, no need mask" people... so in that case, i may move the XM1/2 to my gf's home - already got her the XM1 in her bedroom (and damned lazy to move it around)...

i think it's a conspiracy design theory!.. no obvious handles to make moving of the XM1 around easy... made so that people will want to buy another unit!

4 room new BTO shd be at least 85 sqm ba....all the way to 97 sqm for some special projects. Resale 4-room can reach 107 sqm I think.

I'll see if the seller would let me open and check the SPL of the XM2 at 330 m3/hr mode. That's the key airflow/fan speed that we are interested in....vs the AX40 and M8088A. I can't get an actual dB rating as my SPL meter is partially spoilt but I can still use my handphone SPL meter and also ears.

Maybe also test the 388 and 330m3/hr power consumption with my DMM.

388 m3/hr is likely to be too noisy for daily bedroom sleep use.

i think you know this bro, however decibels as a loudness measure, a difference of 10, means half/twice, as it's logarithmic in nature. so from 70dB to 60 dB, would be HALF the noise level.... but less than 10, i dunno how to calculate already...

If you happened to have a very simple air ion counter like the KT-401 or any negative ion tester, you can use it to "test" (sort of). When the VirusDoctor is on, there will be negative readings shown on the counter (indicating negative ions).

When the VirusDoctor is switched off, only positive readings displayed.

Edit: If you don't have the counter, don't be bothered. I don't think is necessary to purposely go buy and test.

This is just a very rough simple way to gauge / test to see if the VirusDoctor is working.

Issue is that the phone is not calibrated, so 10dB on the phone probably means a somewhat different figure, though not by a lot if you already know a known source like the AX40 (45dB thereabouts). And for relatively simple waveforms from the air purifier, it's quite easy to measure.

All of these ratings/measurements are for the lowest fan speed/nite mode.
Even a $99 machine like the Sharp A28 would do nicely.

What you need to do is to look for something that'd do nicely in your intended place of operation at a specific ACH / Air Change Hour. Bedroom at night means you'd need at least 250 m3/hr airflow and at that airflow you'd need comfortably below 50dBA.

Living room day use - noise wise it'd be slightly less of an issue.
