Just got the samsung ax40h5000gmd... but inside is korean manual... anyone know where i can get an english manual? .. google it but no luck so far...

also how long b4 i change the filter?

and one observation is the suction of air is from the back and the filtered air is blown up to the front.. in this way isit efficient? I mean if the air is sucked from the back means not much dirty air is flowing to the back, so turning over and let the suction be at the front will suck up more dirty air faster right?

It's good to change the filter once every 12 months if you use 10hrs daily.

Don't worry about the position, it will work. The work is done by the filtered air pushing the air around the room and mixing it all up. Sharp is also using back intake as well front intake for its models.

You'd figure out the button functions on the Samsung AX40.
For the third button from left to right, a light tap activates and deactivates the ioniser. A long press deactivates the filter change LED (should it come on)

The rightmost 4 "icon buttons" are not touch sensitive, they do not work. They are just indicators for the fan speed.

Preferable to check the 1-hr PM2.5 figures and switch on during day time too. Yesterday west side from 10am to 8pm 11 hours, it was Unhealthy for Sensitive groups (AQI > 100 with AQI 155 peaks) and for 5 sustained hours 1pm to 5pm Unhealthy for ALL groups coz > AQI 150 for 5 hrs.

Latest news - it's also Unhealthy for Sensitive groups right now for North, 10pm and 11pm 1-hr PM2.5 readings.

Not sure if SingStat have it? If not maybe I should curl the page everyday 11.50pm :D

Curl at 12:30am will capture the midnite reading for a complete daily cycle of 1am-12am 1hr interval readings.

I certainly would like to see the 1hr pm2.5 ug/cu.m be converted to AQI and furthermore, should be shown on the tv screen as it is much more useful in helping us to plan our activities and operating of air purifiers.

The 3hr psi lags the hard truth by too many hours (like 6hrs) to be of practical use. Moreover the peaks and troughs are smoothen out because of moving average.

Also the 5 regions are not homogeneous, so good to have all 5 AQI shown, like at the 4 corners of the tv screen with N, S, E, W prefixes added to AQI numbers and C for central region displayed at top middle.

NEA should perhaps provide proactive data, eg use the duxton 50 storey hdb as an observation post and provide advance warning of incoming haze from the south side.

Actually after I found out the day before that they are posting the 1-hr PM2.5 concentrations tabled in a 24-hr history format, i'm already pretty pleased.

Don't ask for more liao. :s34:

Well, I beg to differ. Having the data but not disseminating it efficiently to the people that need to use it is only a half-done job in my books.

Not many will know how to navigate the NEA website to look for the 1hr PM2.5 plus the knowledge to convert it to AQI and interpret the good, moderate, unhealthy for sensitive, unhealthy, very unhealthy, etc.... especially the sensitive group consisting of old people that are not internet savvy.

TV already have the mechanism to show on-screen 24hr psi, 3hr psi. Mechanism is there, but the will ....?

Even with the info it's somewhat useless I guess. Eg Culture of wearing a mask is just not there.
Once I wore a surgical mask and sat down on the MRT coz I was sniffing (cold) and the guy right next to me bolted right up.

22nd Sep 1 day after F1where the AQI peaked at approx. 300 and NEA 1-hr PM2.5 data itself registered AQI 186, the clinics were choked with people. Few colleagues went MC.
But nope, they are not interested in getting an air purifier despite the cheapest is $99 on qoo and stores $135-149.

Guess they are more than happy to see the 24-hr PSI for N, S, E, W ba.....which is not very useful at all (Sunday and yesterday's examples proved that)

Well, there are certainly examples where the AQI is homogenous. There are also examples where there is substantial difference in 1hr PM2.5 betn the regions, eg on F1 day and yesterday.

The numbers on the map that u had embedded, is it the 1hr PM2.5 reading? I look at the map but it does not explicitly say so.

How close are the reading across different regions pretty much depends on the volume/density of haze and wind direction. especially low volume relative to area of Singapore
coupled with low wind speed.

West usually has worse readings relative to others, maybe there are other underlying factors like industrial/petrochemical pollution.

Its the 24hr PSI...check the image's top left corner. 69-76.
There is no 1hr pm2.5 PSI, only concentration (ug/m3) is published.

I use the concentration to AQI calculator to convert.

Yesterday south hit a peak of 51 ug/cu.m (=AQI 139) at 6pm and I believe west have a peak of 55 (=AQI 149).

AQI of 100-149 is unhealthy for sensitive group
AQI of 150-199 is unhealthy for all

In fact, AQI had been unhealthy for sensitive group from 12nn to 6pm for south. Their ug/cu.m from 12nn to 6pm is below:
43 46 43 44 41 46 51

Translated to AQI,
It ranges from a low of 41 (AQI=115) to a high of 51 (AQI=139)

Bottom line is that for 6 hours yesterday, it was unhealthy for sensitive groups.

I leave the readers to see for themselves what yesterday's 3hr PSI told them during the corresponding 12nn - 6pm period.

Indicators are just that, indicators. Make your own judgement call based on visual, olfaction and personal level of comfort.

For me personally, my air purifier runs whenever somebody is at home nowadays. To heck with the readings... :s8:
