Just got the samsung ax40h5000gmd... but inside is korean manual... anyone know where i can get an english manual? .. google it but no luck so far...

also how long b4 i change the filter?

and one observation is the suction of air is from the back and the filtered air is blown up to the front.. in this way isit efficient? I mean if the air is sucked from the back means not much dirty air is flowing to the back, so turning over and let the suction be at the front will suck up more dirty air faster right?

Let me link you up with this post from part 1 last year... :)

Indicators are just that, indicators. Make your own judgement call based on visual, olfaction and personal level of comfort.

For me personally, my air purifier runs whenever somebody is at home nowadays. To heck with the readings... :s8:

Buy already must use. :D

But it matters more to those who spend a lot of time outside. Ie cumulative.

Yesterday south hit a peak of 51 ug/cu.m (=AQI 139) at 6pm and I believe west have a peak of 55 (=AQI 149).

AQI of 100-149 is unhealthy for sensitive group
AQI of 150-199 is unhealthy for all
North was 57 and 58ug/m3 for 5 and 6pm, think thats AQI 152.

If i hazard a guess that is above PSI 100 relatively speaking. "UNHEALTHY".

Have to listen to your body at the end of the day, its getting pretty common these few days and caution would be well advised esp for Sensitive people.

Good job.
Can enhanced with the table below for interpreting the readings without the need for converting to AQI.

PM2.5 Reading Interpretation:
>251 - Hazardous
>151 - Very unhealthy
>56 - Unhealthy for All
>36 - Unhealthy for sensitive groups
>12 - Moderate
<12 - Good

Drought code in Southern Sumatra still sustaining disaster-like conditions.
Those are sustained peat fires alright. That 1 or 2 whole days of showers won't do nothing to extinguish peat fires.

Compare top and bottom pic (16 Sep vs 30 Sep)

The DC values shown on the map are indicative values of the moisture content of a deep layer of compact organic matter. Peat soil is an example of deep compact organic soil. The DC is used to indicate the potential for fire to smoulder in peat which is the primary cause of smoke and haze in Southeast Asia. It can also be used as an indicator of difficulty in extinguishing deep burning peat fires as well as an early warning indicator of serious haze events.

Class-Smoke Potential = Yellow - High
Normal dry season peak conditions. Between 5 and 15 dry days until DC reaches threshold. All burning in peatlands should be restricted. Weather forecast and seasonal rainfall assessments should be monitored closely for signs of an extended dry season

Red colour Class-Smoke Potential - Extreme.
Approaching disaster-level drought conditions. Less than 5 dry days until DC reaches threshold, at which point severe haze is highly likely. Complete burning restriction should be enforced.

It's good to change the filter once every 12 months if you use 10hrs daily.

Don't worry about the position, it will work. The work is done by the filtered air pushing the air around the room and mixing it all up. Sharp is also using back intake as well front intake for its models.

You'd figure out the button functions on the Samsung AX40.
For the third button from left to right, a light tap activates and deactivates the ioniser. A long press deactivates the filter change LED (should it come on)

The rightmost 4 "icon buttons" are not touch sensitive, they do not work. They are just indicators for the fan speed.

Thx for info👍

wrx bro, does it mean higher PM2.5, then more of the lor smell?

Sort of. But smell doesnt seem to be a good indicator. Needs to be past a certain threshold.

This years haze is not the same as last year. The 1-hr averaged PM2.5 concentration can tell you that the past 1 hr has been Unhealthy for All (AQI 155 or 66ug/m3) for West side this morning rush hour at 8AM.
But for East side same time at 8AM it was only AQI 63 or 18ug/m3 which is nearly good quality air.

Even averaged out...the 24-hr fig was PSI of 89 and 24hr concentration of 46ug/m3 which is AQI 127.

The WHO does not recommend going above 25 ug/m3 of PM2.5, 24hr mean fig. (or 10ug/m3 annual mean fig)
WHO | Ambient (outdoor) air quality and health

That translates to a threshold of AQI 78 on the aqicn website. (it uses 24-hr figures)
Or 24-hr PSI of 54 thereabouts.

If you'd check the 24-hr PSI figure for dates 30th Aug 2014 onwards (link below), everyday is above this threshold.
Historical PSI Readings

World Health Organization
Ambient (outdoor) air quality and health

Fact sheet N°313
Updated March 2014

Health effects

There is a close, quantitative relationship between exposure to high concentrations of small particulates (PM10 and PM2.5) and increased mortality or morbidity, both daily and over time. Conversely, when concentrations of small and fine particulates are reduced, related mortality will also go down – presuming other factors remain the same. This allows policymakers to project the population health improvements that could be expected if particulate air pollution is reduced.

Small particulate pollution have health impacts even at very low concentrations – indeed no threshold has been identified below which no damage to health is observed. Therefore, the WHO 2005 guideline limits aimed to achieve the lowest concentrations of PM possible.

Guideline values

PM2.5
10 μg/m3 annual mean
25 μg/m3 24-hour mean

PM10
20 μg/m3 annual mean
50 μg/m3 24-hour mean

Basket...i am super WOLS.

Now then i know myENV app does show the 1-hr PM2.5 (ug/m3) figure. However, same as the nea.gov.sg webby... it's not displayed in AQI or PSI, it's in CONCENTRATION ug/m3.

That's why it is important to have the 1hr pm2.5 readings widely disseminated thru TV, cos u can then try to avoid those peaks so that u bring down the average exposure for the day. The current 3hr psi is of no use as it lags at least few hours. Moreover peaks and troughs are smoothened out.

The 24hr fig already "failed" the WHO standard, what more the 1hr PM2.5 concentration converted into AQI.

It would just cause mass panic.

Malaysia ordered schools in Kluang and and some areas like Perak to be closed this year March and July 2014. They hit over API 300 and 200 respectively.

>>On March 4, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said if the API reading exceeded 150, all outdoor activities would have to be scrapped while the schools would be closed if the API breached 200. - See more at: Haze forces 203 schools to close, AsiaOne News

Manjung coastal district enveloped by haze forcing 15 schools to close

IPOH: The Manjung coastal district in Perak was enveloped in haze at a “very unhealthy’ level at 1pm today, forcing the cancellation of the afternoon session of 15 schools there.

The six primary and nine secondary schools, with an enrolment of 5,945, were ordered to close their afternoon sessions after the Air Pollutant Index (API) rose to 247, said Perak education director Mohd Idris Ramli.

Ultimately, different "standards" lah.

The good thing is that i came back from work on the MRT just now and saw 2 preggies wearing masks, though surgical mask nia (besides for 3rd trimester they shd really be very careful with wearing N95 esp without exhaust valves as that reduces oxygen intake and increase risk of fainting/headaches).

Tropical Storm Phanphone intensified to Cat 1 Typhoon status this morning. It is expected to further intensify into a Cat 4 typhoon.

Will this change the winds more towards South and SW as it tracks along a NW direction? Remains to be seen. Coz this typhoon is quite far up north. But it is considered to be quite powerful.

It might bring a bit of rain, from the "tail" of the typhoon as it enhances the monsoon flow. (and this one the tail is pretty long)
