So many! Actually you could have purchased some other stuff as well and not get so many HEPAs. Like rechargeable batteries (Amazon basics), charger..... or Maxell AA Alkalines, to name a few.

If budget is not an issue, A80 for the living room and 2 x A40 for the bedrooms. A80 can then lug into the bedroom during sleeping time.

Can try Samsung AX40 for the rooms. SGD270 shipped. You can get it from qoo10. It's actually relatively quieter than the Sharps vs models with the same airflow, simply put.

I have been using it for 2 months now daily, sometimes 24 by 7 and most times in high fan speed. No issue even though the voltage is 220V 60Hz.
If you want, buy extra filters along with it on qoo10.

Anyway, Sharp KC-A40E replacement filters have also been OOS since the starting of 2014 already, @ Best Denki Taka.

Novita NAP501 is slightly cheaper at 299 with 1 extra filter. But it's 250m3/h airflow vs the AX40's 323m3/h (38W consumption for the 501 vs 34W for the AX40). The HEPA in the 501 is 10 x 11 x 0.75 inch vs 11 x 12 x 1.5 inch so that's more than double the dust holding capacity. At high speed, the 501 is also slightly noisier than the AX40 even though flowing less air.

So choose your poison.

I am wondering if those have serious allergy should look for those certified purifier for asthma allergy users. I think there are also different certification categories.

Very very little difference for the HEPA portion. Regular H13 that you see in the usual Samsungs/Sharp units are tested by labs till 0.1 microns already, at a very effective 99%+ rate.

Those TVOC/VOCs....not aware that they'd trigger any allergies.

If you are looking at ultrafine particulate matter, ie less than 0.1 microns, then only 1 claims to effectively take care of that. IQAir.

If you cannot pay about 5k for 2 units IQAir 250 (1 x living rm and 1 x bedroom), then no problem. Check out my DIY posts in this thread, get the IQAir HyperHEPA filters from ebay and stick it at the intakes of a $279 Europace air cooler. Very carefully plug the sides so that there is no bypass or as little bypass as possible.. It will work.

The GC Multigas cartridges, i think really no need lah.

A40 got humidifier, temp and humidity display, dust sensor display, and can put water.

I was just playing with the A40 this afternoon at Taka BD, confirm louder and less airflow than the AX40, absolutely no doubt about that.

My wife likes the design of the Sharp A series also.

El Niño will make Indonesia's deforestation even worse

It's a world record nobody wants. Not only is Indonesia deforesting faster than any other country, the coming El Niño looks set to take the country's forest loss to record levels.

Satellite data shows Indonesia lost 60,000 square kilometres of primary forest between 2000 and 2012 (Nature Climate Change, doi.org/tgk). The forests are cleared, usually by burning, to make way for oil palm plantations.

With deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon having slowed, Indonesia is the new global centre of tropical forest loss, says Belinda Arunarwati Margono of the University of Maryland at College Park, who analysed the data.

The deforestation has continued despite the Indonesian government declaring a moratorium on further forest clearance in 2011. According to Margono, the fastest ever recorded deforestation in the country happened in the first year after the moratorium.

The El Niño now emerging in the Pacific will only make things worse. During an El Niño, warm water spreads over the eastern Pacific, affecting global weather. This week the UK's Met Office predicted a "weak to moderate" El Niño. But even a weak one can bring drought to Indonesia, making burning easier.

It is already extensive, says the World Resources Institute (WRI), a think tank in Washington DC. In late June, NASA satellites recorded a rash of fires in Indonesia. Thick clouds of hazardous smoke are heading for densely populated Malaysia and Singapore.

So far the fires have been concentrated in Riau province on Sumatra, which has been intensely cleared in recent years. More than 150 fires were recorded there during the week ending 23 June, says Nigel Sizer of WRI.

According to WRI, about 75 of the fires were in concessions owned by Sinar Mas Forestry, part of the giant Sinar Mas conglomerate. The company has previously denied responsibility for fires on its land, saying they were set by outsiders, such as local smallholders.

The fires will warm the climate. During the major El Niño of 1997-98, Indonesian forest fires released around 1.5 billion tonnes of carbon into the atmosphere, equal to a quarter of all fossil fuel emissions at the time (Nature, doi.org/fvkncg).

The climate threat from such fires is increasing, because the biggest increase in Indonesian forest loss has taken place in swamp forests, says Margono. When peat in these swamps burns, it produces more smoke and carbon emissions than do ordinary forest fires. The fires "are probably not caused by smallholders, but by agro-industrial land developers", she says.

The Fellowes HF-230 cannot fit the Sharp KC-A40 or KC-840, as the purifier's filter length is like 14.5 inches, which is longer than the 13.x inches of the HF-230.

Need to go to taobao to search for those 400mm length HEPAs, which I have shared before. Those taobao HEPAs range in quality from about 90% efficient till 99.2% efficient, measured by laser particle counters. They are quite cheap though, and can be shipped individually or maybe 2 or 3 for a very small fee via 4PX forwarder.

eg 410 x 310mm x 35mm, RMB95. Actually could fit Sharp A50.

The Samsung is 11" by 12, the HEPA portion is 1.5 inch thick though so it's thicker than those in taobao (thickest I have seen there is 38mm but RMB100). The activated charcoal portion is 0.5 inch, integrated together with the HEPA filter.

Both the above taobao HEPA and HF-230 can fit the AX40, bear in mind need to cut and plug up the sides (with scotch tape, PU foam etc) to prevent bypass.
Do-able one, I have tried before.
