The filter used on the A50 is better?

Hence the same price.

Ok, it works this way.

A50 = True HEPA, 99.97% @ 0.3 microns...that's the worst performance particle size.

A80 (non humidifying) comes with H10/HEPA-10, 85% efficient @ 0.3 microns....worst performance particle size.

But A80 is what.... 480m^3/hr airflow. So times 85% is 408m^3/hr of clean air per hr.

A50 on paper is about 350m^3/h i think.

Improving it is easy, just get HEPA-13 from Amazon. Might need to get 2pcs to patch it up (scotch tape, soft PU foam to prevent bypass at the sides)....but trust me it's v much cheaper there. For my KC-840E, i can do it for 3X cheaper, at SGD35...using Honeywell H type H13 filters.

Ok, the frame on the left you can see Plasmacluster Air Purifiers and Plasmacluster Air Purifiers with Humidifying functions.

The ones with Humidifying functions (A40, A50, A60, D40, D60) all have 99.97% efficiency H13 filters. With the exception of KC-930E.

The ones without humidifying are H10. Z31, Y30, A28, A30

Got the Samsung AX40 from KenQuek. Nice item. Damn quiet, am really surprised and I'd believe that it's even quieter than the NAP501 and definitely quieter than my Sharp KC-840.

Will try to dig out my SPL meter sometime to do some dB measurements. :D

It's a 220V 60Hz appliance, we are doing 50Hz here. Voltage +10% usually not an issue (I get 235Vac from my outlet). Apparently if you run a 60Hz AC motor on 50Hz, you'd get 5/6th of the speed. However that is if you were to run an AC motor directly off the grid.

The Novita NAP501 has a distinct audible AC hum when you switch it on and put it into the lowest speed.

This Samsung AX40 does not have any audible hum, even when I pressed my ears directly on the unit (ie you are going to hear even the lowest level hum). The Sharp KC-840C also has a DC motor, no hum.

I believe it has a DC motor. The electronics also seem to be happy with a 60Hz supply, anyway I believe it has a SMPS/Switched Mode Power Supply so it doesn't really matter.....think it should be running at full spec.

Best prices from Ebay/Qoo10.

Anyway, for those who are interested, the HEPA-13 portion of the Samsung AX40 is 1.5 inch deep. 12.1 inch by 11 inch. Sharp A40/KC-840 is 14 inch by 9.5 inch by 1.25.
NAP501 HEPA portion is 9.5 by 12 by 1 inch.

Warranty wise le?

I bought from one of the forumers a few posts above this. Qoo10 cheapest is S$310 shipped (FedEx) with about 10 positive reviews, if you want better svc + a more reliable seller with 300 over positive reviews then it's $339 IIRC. If you want EBay's protection, then it's also S$339 via EMS shipped. Below SGD400, so no GST.

The qoo10 sellers got provide warranty. Think if it's DOA then they'll refund the shipping cost to have it sent back to South Korea for repair, you can check the qoo10 reviews. If it's spoils after that, I believe the buyer has to foot the shipping cost.

I don't think there is much to worry about anyway. FOr a month, I have been gunning the NAP501 in high and turbo mode nearly 24 by 7 coz got infant. :D
Try that with a 240->110V transformer purifier.

Anyway, for more pics, can google search taobao and AX40H5000GMD.

Anyone considering Rowenta PU2120 Intense Pure Air or Europace Air Purifier EPU370C?

That Europace purifier come with a true hepa filter from 3M. But it come with a built in ionizer.

Hi Bro. Which model is a better one since both of them are selling at same price. Do you think the price at Giant is a fair price or a tad high? Also, how the filter thing goes about? Could you explain again as I do not want to dig back into this thread to find what you have had shared so far. Too tedious. Do you have any other recommendation if Sharp @ Giant is not preferred choice.

I guess can call Goh Ah Bee and see if they have Sharp stock.

Why not try the Samsung AX40? It's S$310 shipped, spec is same league as the A50. No point going for the smaller AX22 as it's $270 lowest.
Replacement filter get from qoo at 88 bucks shipped.

I measured the noise levels of the Sharp KC-840E, Novita NAP501 and Samsung AX40H5000GMD. All set at the highest fan speed. The quietest is the Samsung, it's some 4-5 dB quieter than the other 2 while filtering more air the other 2. Power.

Used a real SPL meter (not iPhone app).

See the few post before this, I mentioned before.

Look at the last second seller. S$310 shipped.

http://list.qoo10.sg/s/SAMSUNG-AX40?keyword=Samsung+AX40&keyword_auto_change=

Believe they cover DOA, check with them.

It's a Samsung not a brandless tiong brand on aliexpress or taobao, yesterday I also bought without checking. No issues.

This seller has the Samsung AX40 + 1 extra filter for S$367 shipped. Still below $400 GST limit.

Filter costs S$88 separately (lowest cost that I could find). So effectively the purifier is just S$279.

Heh last unit of the AX40 went to WussRedXLi.

Now still left one AX037FCVAUWD going for $250 only.

Difference from AX40 is the slight capacity. Filters same.

AX037 also can do.... Decent design. Basically it has v slightly lower airflow than the AX40 (10% less), the AX40 has some v slight design improvements.

Would rather get this than the Honeywells + convertor from Amazon.

The best part about this is that it's damn silent even though it's moving air at about 350m^3/hr which is Sharp A50 league. I will be moving the Sharp KC-840 to my mum's place for the kids (day time), will be using the Novita 501 and Samsung AX40 in my house.

Seriously, it looks literally the same. Here's a high-res photo of the AX037

just to check , the sharp KC-A50E come with humidifying function. There is a water tank at the side. Must the water tank be fill up or can be empty?
Thinking of buying it tmr at Harvey Norman @549. Did not see A80 there.

Can be empty. Anyway you can choose the function on the top panel, got 2 buttons. 1 for air purifying, the other for air purifying + humidifying.

I saw quite a few A80s at Taka BD, but all is pre-order stock. They literally have close to 100 air purifiers all stacked up and waiting to be sent out to customers. My colleague was buying her Novita 501 and the sales guy said she was 200+ in the pre-order list. Another model had 600+ orders.

noted, manage to download the A50 manual already.

After reading 55 pages of this thread, still cannot decide on A50 or A80. Since A50 is available now, I will just grab it. Not going taka to try my luck. A50 should do the job right?

Any HEPA-10 or HEPA-13 based machine would work beautifully. :)

Ok, a practical observation here. During last year's dense haze, I placed the KC-840E near the windows and it has a HEPA-10 filter then (I still hadn't bought and fixed in the A40's HEPA-13 filter which has the exact same dimensions). We could easily see the clean and clear transparent air being blown out of the outlet.

It's a good purchase for the pregnant wife, kids, elderly and you are gonna be using it for a good number of years. Just like the air-con.
