Car air purifiers - not so easy a solution. Actually I feel that as long as it's not fitted with a HEPA filter, it's not going to be effective. Haze particles down down to 0.1 microns as well as slightly below that. Efficiency of the usual consumer grade HEPA, even the H13 variants, is pretty good and still can take care of 0.1 microns (I touched on it before in prev posts).

Electrostatic precipitation air purifiers (quite rare nowadays) won't be nearly as effective for haze per unit product volume coz they cannot blast the air volume very high past the plates. But they don't have to get replacement air filters.

(1) A decent PM2.5 monitor is not cheap. Mine is too cheap to give any accurate readings, hence I don't give any in this thread. I would not recommend you to spend $$ on this unless you just won Group 1. :)

(2) Yes, I am very used to getting stuff on TB/Tmall. :D
The item in the link has a H12 or HEPA-12 (ie 99.5% efficiency at 0.3 microns) filter, unfortunately it has unknown airflow spec.

That tmall link you just posted has a very very good vid, i'd just take the opportunity to type out the summary and share with the others here.

They tested 3 air purifiers in the car. Ambient air reading was 328 ug/m3, they "aired" the car cabin and closed the windows, and got a reading of 277 ug/m3. After a 20 mins drive and air purifier operation, they got readings below (42, 30 and 98 ug/m3)

TB26vPdapXXXXbrXpXXXXXXXXXX_!!2104616627.jpg

There were 2 pax in the car and an air quality scientist mentioned that during the 20 min drive, those 2 pax in a small car cabin do affect the readings. True enough, 277 ug/m3 dropped to 124 ug/m3 after a 20 min drive.

So only 2 are effective enough.

IMO, 698RMB is really too much money to spend for such performance. A small unit put on top of the car dashboard usually is got constraints one, ie size.

And then how about replacement filter? The H12 filter would need to be replaced in 12 months probably.

So not really recommended.

If you are in sales and spend like > 3hrs a day on the road and are affected by the haze coz you are in the sensitive group, and presumably you cannot afford much "downtime" aka MCs, then may I suggest that you go to Homefix/Selffix and get one of those 3M aircon filter. It's around 17.90 for a 30x60cm piece.
Fix this to your car's air-con filter frame (you would need to detach your glove compartment box).

Do note that airflow would drop about 50%, so instead of medium speed, now you gotta switch it to High liao. It's going to get a wee bit noisier as well.

It will work esp in the small cabin of the car but not for very short drives. However if you are doing sales and commute for > 1 hour every day, the closed cabin of the car does contain the good air for a large %. (PS. during driving, a small amount of air exchange is always present)

It's not cheap if you buy at local Homefix, but can test test first for a low cost of 17.90. If you like it, get it in a big pack.
The filter needs to be changed after 3-4 weeks for optimal performance.

This big pack can last you for 8 years at least. It's much cheaper than buying the 17.90 version locally, if I remember correctly it'd cost around sgd4 per 30cm by 60cm cut-out. :D Shipping is not ex.

Filtrete Allergen Defense Filter, 30-Inch by 60-Inch by 1-Inch, 4-Pack - Replacement Household Furnace Filters - Amazon.com

The local version at sgd17.90 is this size, 15 x 24 inch, 1 piece.

Someone tested the 3M Filtrete during last year's severe haze.

Haze is back this morning. But doesn't look that bad on the 1-hr PM2.5
Can't see Batam at all and the trees at 300m looks more veiled by smoke than yesterday at 23km.

South = 26 ug/m3.

South side looks bad over here. But it shows "only" 39 ug/m3.

Or maybe coz last time 55-60+ ug/m3 I was usually in office or out in the streets, so could not really gauge well. Now at home.

That means last time even blurrer at over 55ug/m3.

Currently at a temple. Brought my monitor to get a feel.

100 to 200ug/m3 at the general hall with incense and candles.

Sneezed 4 times initial bout...after that ok liao. 15mins now. I reckon if i stayed longer than 30 mins then id need antihistamines.

South side i think my place wont even see Sentosabisland.

Going home now. Streetside got hear 1 pax complaining hot and headache due to haze just now.

Feeling lightheaded myself too. Was outside since 1030h...and at temple getting 200ug/m3 for 45 mins.

I got close to 1 litre of water for hydration.
