But it's possible that it's going to do ultrafine particles really good.

But as also shown, it's not as if HEPA is not capable of that in the 0.05 to 0.1 range, the efficiency + airflow (CADR) is still really decent and achievable even for consumer stuff like Samsung. The TB HEPAs probably would fare relatively worse, but there still would be some cleaning (just run multiples + choose the larger filters if you are anal in this area :D)

If one really wants to splurge, just get the Airgle or IQAir, they handle ultrafine particles just fine. Or if you have enough space, just get from Taobao the cleanroom fans and DIY with some big-ass 1200 x 600mm x 70mm ULPA for a low S$300 and be done with it. :D
(4PX shipping might cost a little at 13kg, S$70...still not too much)

Best is still not to live anywhere close to the expressways, main roads like Tampinese Ave 1 etc. Definitely not within 100m :) Ultrafine particles exposure is daily for literally the rest of your life.

It's correct. At the back there should be a sticker stating 34W power consumption, that's the AX40H5000GMD. 6.4kg.

Thank you wrx bro for introducing this AP, I set it up to work last night and it was running really quiet (auto mode instead of sleep mode). I can feel that the room was cleaner as my nose irritation gets milder.

Just to share on my bad experience with my Novita air humidifier NH900. I would suggest everyone to keep away from this model.

Novita_Humidifier_NH900.jpg

The model has 3 mode of mist form where level 1 has minimal or no mist at all whereas level 2 and 3 have about the same amount of mist. What ticks me the most is the unacceptable noise level when the water are following thru the passage. The water doesn't seems to flow smoothly and will only refill after a certain period of time, so the noise of water flowing (around every 20 mins or so) is louder.

Another thing is the water indicator sensor which goes off whenever the water tank is empty. (4-5 short beep like alarm clock) My sensor went malfunction and will beep even thou the water tank is still full. If leave unattended, the water will flow again and after sometime later the sensor would beep again (fake water depletion indicator).

As such, I will be awaken either by: 1) The loud water flowing (every 20 mins), 2) The constant water depletion beeping sound (every 1 - 2hr).

I've already brought the set back to Novita for 3-4 times, but the problem is still not fixed. Really feel sad for this machine as I paid $300 bucks for it.. Now it's just rotting at one corner.. :(

Sho fast ah......I was thinking that people would notice the effects like 2-3 weeks later. Thus, some of the more kancheong people expecting instant relief (eg antihistamine meds) would say that APs don't work at all.

Wow, that particular Novita humidifier is so bad. Mine is the basic, costed me S$79 only but it was very long time ago, like 10 years ago. Just have a basic humidity level control (eg set the humidity and also mist level/humidification rate knob.

Really very basic, just fill her up and set the levels, done.

Hi there,

Bro, glad to have you in here to share and welcome again! I guess you were doing a google search or something an this AP thread turned up or something like that. :D
Really excellent, we have another clean air enthusiast here, with a F7 HVAC + Sharp APs.

Wow, I don't think that you are a Singaporean living in Moscow? This forum may seem somewhat queer to you, in a sense that it very much caters to the local crowd hence the language can get weird in a way that we talk in long slang/colloquial. So sometimes, you might not be able to understand us. :s13:

Anyway, many years back IIRC early 2000s, I used to have this similar model from this brand "Novita". Pretty common stuff, I think they have similar models retailing in local malls nowadays. Typical 5-litre tank etc.

http://estore.novita.com.sg/products/humidifier/humidifier-nh-659.html#.VcPkjtocR-E

NH659_Novita_Humidifier_Hum.jpg

Power Consumption
40 Watts
Recommended Coverage
Up to 130 sq. ft or 14 m²
Tank Capacity
5.0 litres
Humidification Rate (note : it does this constantly, not dependent on the ambient RH % level)
400ml/hr
Continuous Humidification
Minimum 12 hours

Nice of you to share your data!
Sharp KC-A61RW RH %, mL/hr humidification rate
Specs 20С 30% 300 600 730
Real data 25С 41% 230 460 660

Sharp KC-A51RW RH %, mL/hr humidification rate
Specs 20С 30% 250 500 600
Real data 24С 44% 180 360 560

Below is the specs of the Sharp KC-A40 (same league as the newest Sharp KC-D40, my old KC-840E etc). Your measurements seems legit, the specs are the same as the A40, as below :

Sharp A40
Tank Capacity (L)
A40 = 3.0L (the new KC-D40 has even less @ 2.5L)
Humidifying Capacity*1 (Max / Med / Low) (mL / hour)
450 / 400 / 200 mL/hr
1.Humidification amount changes in accordance with indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity. Measurement Condition: 20°C, 30% Humidity (JEM 1426)

Personally, I have not done any tests to verify, but I guess it's safe to say the ones given above are believable. :)

Ultrasound humidification's humidification rate does not depend on the Relative Humidity (RH) of the air, coz it's "active" instead of relying on natural evaporation. While an air purifier's wick based humidifier totally depends on the RH level and work best in drier climates.

You raised a good point in saying that Air purifier's wick based system is much less energy consuming, as it's just a rotating wick that picks up water in the water pan and evaporates it in the airflow.
An ultrasound humidifier consumes heckloads more electricity to get the same effect, airflow is key.

Over here in Singapore, it's always pretty warm so we use air-conditioning extensively after reaching home from work. RH on sunny "dry" days reach about 55% in the afternoon and gets to 70% at 8pm and 80% midnight (hits 90s or even close to 100% whenever it rains and it's quite frequent here in the tropics).
The air-con is what makes the air relatively dry if one sets the thermostat for the air-con at a low temp say 24-25 coz then the compressor would be working and the aircon heat exchanger fins become lower than the dew point (you'd get condensation water discharged in the drainage pipe).
This is an active process even if the room is relatively air-tight, as the heat does get in from the windows/ceilings/floors.

By personal experience when I was still using the humidifier in the Sharp KC-840, we usually set the thermostat @ 25 deg C or so and I couldn't get the humidity to rise lot my desired ~ 75%, the air's RH probably was in the 50+% range. I remember with the Novita Ultrasound, I could even hit 100% a few times if I waited long enough, of coz as mentioned that's for fun.

Your data : Sharp KC-A51RW (Sharp A50)
RH %, mL/hr humidification rate
Specs 20С 30% 250 500 600
Real data 24С 44% 180 360 560

44-30% = 14%. I may be wrong, but I suspect if we add another 14% to it to make it to 58%, the humidification mL/h rate would drop to maybe 200mL/h in Medium fan if we are gonna push it further to 70-75%. I suspect that the humidification rate would taper off a bit as the delta gets less. And probably ard 150-180mL/h for the Sharp A40 league smaller APs.

But your are right that the ultrasound humidification devices would consume quite a fair number of watts more, vs the APs.

Of course, that's just me then, with my acute allergic rhinitis surffering then and I felt best at 70+% RH esp when the air is cold. And perhaps for the locals here as we are used to the local climate of perennial warmer temps and RH versus to you folks in Russia which do get very crazy stuff. :D
I remember I was just sensitive to lower humidity conditions.... My condition is much better now and travelling to countries to Beijing (20%!!! T-shirt nearly dries within 1hr in the hotel room @ 22 deg C! LOL!). :D

I used to have this model but it went kaput in a little over a year.

Then read somewhere that these are not really good cos something to do with simi bacteria inside the water tray and getting into the air?

Anyway, I don't think you get haze/smoke often (annual event?) in Moscow? Earlier in 2015, the forest fires happened close to Chernobyl I think.
Almost annual. The biggest problem was in 2010.
This year a lot of rain. And almost perfect PM2.5 situation therefore.
Today even in centre of Moscow about 30

I am russian:)
Google found your thread when I choose right particle counter.
Thanks for your work !

Your Novita is one of the best ultrasonic humi.
In Russia sold under name Boneco Air-O-Swiss 7136
But owners not able to reach specs data

Yes
Everything in tank will be in air.
It's weakest point of ultrasound humi

Yes, and it makes sense if you think about it. If you do not clean the water receptacle, there would be bacteria and mold getting into the air when the water is atomised.

It's also the same for any of those wick based systems, from Air Purifiers to Evaporative Air Coolers. Actually much more difficult to clean as you'd need to dismantle a number of parts and there are more crevices. But maybe not as easy to "float" into the air as it's natural evaporation with airflow blowing across a surface.

After like 2 years, it's most probably that you'd need to replace the water wick.

I have allergic rhinitis too. But your targets for humidity are too high.
According WHO and aaaai.org 45-50% will be ok
In your climate you need dehumi

BTW auto mode in my Sharp
<18 ºC 65 %
18 ºC~24 ºC 60 %
>24 ºC~ 55 %
Also I have Daikin TCK70P
<20C 70%
20-22C 60%
22-25C 50%
>25C 40%

thanks guys for the feedback, greatly appreciate it!

any comments for the Novita NAP 002H? seems like it has pretty much all the needed functions in one machine, and is going to have a sg50 promo on it.

If you want air purifier + humidifier combo, just go for the Sharp A50.
Sharps are workhorses. My Sharp KC-840 is close to 9 years old, daily beater, 11-12 hrs usage a day. No funny sounds during operation, nothing....smooth as new.

There are no cheap second-hand deals for these workhorses. Eg a Sharp A50 usually goes for $260, so not much savings. I'd pick one up in a heartbeat and plant a Taobao Chinese HEPA on it, if they go for $100-120. :D

I have a Novita 501, seriously I'd never expect it to be at the longevity running level of the Sharps.

Thanks for the info, I know 70%-ish is quite high, but I usually find myself to be most comfortable in that range. Maybe one big reason is that Singapore's range is in that region too. Eg, it's 84% RH now in the night.

My nose will really get itchy and sensitive whenever exposed to that low a humidity level, or perhaps it's a mix of both temperature and humidity.

Reasons :
(1) I got symptoms when I landed @ South Korea, Beijing, Shanghai during winter/autumn (multiple times for South Korea) needing antihistamines for the first 24hrs before I get acclimatised decently. My father too (genes from him!)

(2) Experienced before humidity ranges from 10-30% due to dry aircraft cabin air, with temps from 22-24. I would sniff sniff within the first hour, another symptom would be dry eyes which would further irritate my upper respiratory tract (as you know the tracts are all connected).

Fo me, I suspect it's probably a case of 70% humidity and 30% temperature. Or maybe the rate of drop in the humidity level plays a major part too, coz as I've mentioned before, the range here in Singapore is usually high so we are all acclimatised to that.

Anyway, over here in Singapore, we'd never get 50% RH at night, let alone 45%. :s13:

Hence my earlier reply to corny_cow regarding humidifiers, probably would not help his eczema as the levels are not that low. Unless if one goes crazy and sets the termo @ 18 deg C ie compressor 100% switched on.

I'm using a Sharp KC-930 and am looking to replace the filter.

Sharp website:
http://www.sharp-electronics.ie/cps...roduct-details.htm?product=FZY30SFE&cat=21090

Specifications:
http://www.lazada.sg/sharp-replacement-filter-fz-y30sfe-742902.html

Thinking of getting this as replacement:
http://www.amazon.com/Authentic-Rep...l-Treatment-9287201/dp/B00D8JGOU0/ref=sr_1_27

Think it'll work? Specifications are almost similar, just off by 0.254cm on height and width.

Thanks!

Just stuff some tissue to plug the gap. Else , you can also order custom hepa filter from taobao.
