Yeah, Niagara Falls is very nice.

We prefer the USA side in terms of scenery though as u can be very close to the falls itself.

Canada side is more touristy though with more restaurants n shops.

Another place that makes u want to go back again! :)

One thing to note is that not all same-class cabins are built the same.
Some have balconies that are above the generator(noisy) or look out at the lifeboat, not that good a view.
At the aft(end) of the ship, the last cabin can have a giant balcony that covers the back part as well or it can be for handicapped people but larger and for the same price.

There are cruise websites where u can check on a particular ship and the various cabins that they offer.
The cruisers offer reviews etc

Try to get a newer ship.

Other than the major cruise lines like Holland/Princess/Celebrity etc, there are specialty cruise lines with smaller luxury ships. They go to different destinations.
Disney has also started an Alaska cruise.

You have a lot of choices!

Ah yes, Alaska... I can still remember my cruise vividly, even after 1 year. Unfortunately, I had not got my blog updated with the actual details, only did my photos and posted them in clubsnap last year (go to clubsnap, search for alaska, and look for a thread started with the same nickname as I had used here - that's my alaska trip thread).

I sailed on Diamond Princess, and did their most expensive cruisetour which has 7 days of cruising up to Whittier and then 7 days train/bus which goes to Denali National Park, Fairbanks and all the way up to Prudhoe Bay with a flight back to Anchorage.

It was one of my most expensive tour to date, but man, it was worth it!!! I still miss those crabs I had eaten in Juneau (the best ever king legs, snow and dungeness crab).

Oh, it was also memorable 1 day embarking process I had been to - it took us 4 hours before we could get into the ship, and this is by being at the airport boarding the bus at 11 am. I cannot imagine those who queued after us, it must have been longer for them. This is also the reason why the ship only started to pull out of Vancouver around 8.15pm - 4 hours after the supposed departing time.

Oh, I planned the trip way early in March 2010 and finish booking everything by mid Sept 2010, additional cruise excursions by early Feb 2011 (most of the small operators in Alaska are only back in their office in Jan) and sail in end May 2011 - I had a pretty good room in Aloha deck.

Hi alpc,

Wow..that's a GREAT long trip!
And on the beautiful Diamond Princess too..we missed the ship! :s13:

We only took on 3 more days of the Princess land tour after the cruise at Whittier (Anchorage) and visited Mc Kinley, Denali National Park and to Fairbanks.

We ate the king crab legs at the princess lodges too..and it was huge and nice!

For our embarking, it only take around 2 hours plus.
We had stayed a day earlier at Vancouver and went to Canada Place Cruise Terminal at atound 11am+.
We were on the ship by 1pm + and had our lunch at the buffet. We posted the food on our blog here.

Day 1 Diamond Princess Alaska Cruise – Vancouver Sailaway ~ Singapore Travel Blog - Discover . Book . Travel

The fine dining were quite nice on some of the days..we are sorting our photos and writing our articles now..and will share as they are ready.. :)

Hey TommyGreen,

Yup, it's was a long trip but love it. I am not sure if I miss the ship, but some of the food was surprisingly good, and the servers at our table was great!

Well, I guess the long queue at the immigration was because they had not got into the rhythm and have not setup the process down to a T - we sailed on the 2nd week of the start of the Alaska cruise season.

We had landed in Vancouver the night before, but was staying somewhere near the airport. So we had a complementary shuttle service from hotel to the airport, and then took the complementary shuttle service from the airport to the terminal. We arrive pretty early as I had originally wanted to walk around Canada Place before boarding, but one look at the queue, decided to join in.

Thank goodness we did, or we would have stuck in the queue longer and without food! We were starving by the time we boarded and headed to Horizon Court for our late lunch. I guess it was a good thing to have a full meal for breakfast that morning (we had IHOP pancakes platter!)

Been following your blog... Great job in dishing out the tips! Will be looking out for more.
