Those of you who have invested time and money (lots of money) in your car audio, why not share your setup here?

This was the boot of my previous car. Photo showcased in the Autotomorrow (local distributor for Genesis, Micro Precision, PSI cables and DB Drive) site gallery:

Current car has nothing :( I keep putting off getting audio done for it because I'm still entertaining hopes of being able to change to something else :s13:

Do share your setup.

I wouldn't call Genesis atas, they've closed down after all. On top of that, 2nd-hand parts traders from across the Causeway who are active in sgsoundsystem have devalued this brand - a problem you may have read about in their forums.

To me, the main worry for Genesis is heat issue where the SQ of the sound will change. Active SQ is already losing out on tonal quality when comparing with Passive SQ, thus change in SQ for active is a big killer.

Well, I did create a thread quite sometime ago to share my ice upgrade here > ICE Upgrade lai liao ;)

As in, heat affecting damping factor? Honestly I think that will be too technical for me :s34:

Interestingly, 1 of my Dual Monos had an overheat problem - although it was only discovered after I'd sold it, and thing is, the last people to touch the amp before the sale were Autotomorrow. I gave the buyer the benefit of doubt though.

Your current setup is German Maestro 3-way on Steg K-series? I've not had the opportunity to audition this brand of speakers, been out of the scene since my dekit 2 1/2 years ago :(

The heat produced from the genesis amps after a period of use will cause the tones to have "colors", for example, too warm. Although genesis A/AB amps are rated 9.5/10 for tonal quality and are able to switch between A and AB but due to limited wattage output nature of this setup, it will miss out a lot of notes for the mid-bass and sub.

For Germen Maestro, these speakers are pretty bright by self but with the combination of its mids, the vocals clarity are pretty good. Pristine in a way, though not the best like Legatia.

The Stegs have the same fate as Genesis, no more local distro. Luckily, mine are still strong. The thing I like about Stegs is the colorless tones so it is WYRIWYH (What You Record Is What You Hear). If you hear the sound of Mosconi before, you will know how the Stegs sound like as Mosconi is using the same platform as I have heard. ;)

As I'd mentioned before, I've sold off my amps. I'm actually done with Genesis, and Autotomorrow for that matter. Bobby is not someone I like doing business with, as far as after-sales support is concerned.

No I've not had the opportunity to audition Mosconis either, apparently they only got popular within these 2 years or so. It's funny how you mention the Stegs being neutral though, most players are in agreement that they are warm amps.

I actually switched to Legatias post-IASCA, although the main L6/3/1 set has been sold, I'm still holding on to a pair of the 1st batch of "limited edition" hand-matched L1 Pro SEs - set 21 of 150. Know anyone who'd be interested? :s34:

I am running Focal 165VR3, Mosconi Gladen One 60.6 on stock HU.

Worth to add a processor? Not sure what are the gains on stock HU and w/o a sub. And I am not keen to change out the HU.

A processor will add versatility to your tuning, and the end-result will definitely sound better than without it, but it does not "fix" the not-so-good source, i.e. your stock HU. You'd be getting better "gains" with a good Alpine or Pioneer HU.

If you must keep your stock HU, then I think it boils down to how price-sensitive you are when it comes to value-for-money. Personally I wouldn't with your setup, but that's me :o

I have a friend who has full Steg setup with Legatia SE 3 way active setup. Great details and soothing vocals. Pretty natural sounding, though a little more depth will be better.

Initially, I also hearsay that Stegs are warm until I got my hands on my first steg and it proves me wrong. If you have heard DLS A series, you will know how warm the vocals can get.

So far, my Stegs works out well for my Jazz vocals and instrumental musical. ;)

Just a quick share.

Those of you driving PI cars with HU or DVDHU given by the PI, do try to open up your dash and see what's behind the panel.

For 2 1/2 years driving this car I've had this bad rattling problem coming from the HU dash panel. It was only when I changed the DVDHU that I found this:

Look at that - crudely home-made scrap metal "brackets" that you can't even screw the HU into, they have to use washers to kiap the DVDHU to these pieces of scrap metal.

I went and bought the original bracket from the stockist - only $18. For a car that they sold for over half a hundred grand (over a hundred grand by today's standards), even something below-$20 also want to scrimp on it :s8:
