Yes and no ... Depend the car brand

Agreed. This is subjective.

Some, if not most ADs can be pretty "calculative" about swopping or changing out original HUs or any other original or OE parts.

Unfortunately,I have to stop upgrading my ICE ...
Blew my cash on Home audio ...
Another one bites the dust :(

Truth be told, I am toying with the idea of downgrading, after spending so much time and money to get what I'm sure y'all will agree is a top tier setup.

Brax X2400.2 Graphic Edition -> MPZ tweeters + midrange.
Brax X2000.2 Graphic Edition -> MPZ midbass.
Brax X2000.0 -> Morel Ultimo 12.

Yes you read that right, a Brax running as a sub amp :o

My new place will be ready end of the year, and we are expecting a new addition to the family :love: And with the way the ICE scene is currently I don't see myself joining any competitions in the foreseeable future. So I'm sure y'all can understand why I'm having thoughts about downgrading.

I believe though that my minimum expectations are still on the high side when compared to the average person :s34: I was looking at a Steg K-series + Focal BE setup:

Steg K4|02 -> BE tweeters + midrange.
Steg K2|02 -> BE midbass.
Steg K3|03 -> Sub (undecided whether to retain the Ultimo).

However, selling off my existing setup is probably a lot harder now without SGSoundSystem around, and I can't help but feel that I will lugi big time from such a downgrading exercise. Might end up keeping it in the end :s8:

y move over to BE? Steg with BE are great with vocals, the lush n thickness of the vocal out from Steg and BE literally goose bumps you. If you have the extra budget get the tube mcintosh with BE, oh gosh this is the best BE setup i heard, wide sound stage with height too , thick n warm vocals.

First you need to consider the current setup.

Even if I put the Brax amps up for sale at half of RRP, it will probably take a long time to get a buyer for them ... remember, mine are Graphic Edition + in chrome, the cost of each piece can buy an entire decent lower-mid-tier active setup already :o

Selling off the MPZ might be easier, but I'd probably have to sell it at a price closer to what it would cost to buy a set of BE No7 active ... even if I get back some money from it, it won't be much, and that kind of defeats the purpose of a downgrade.

P.S. you're probably the 1st person I've ever heard say that Focals are warm :o

The bright ,clarity and staging intrigue and amaze me to the switchover to focal, it somewhat bring the vocals forward and the instruments behind placing a focus on the vocals created a staging to my likeness, some differ, they can be bright if the wrong amps are being paired and some vocals with focal are simply unbearable, I found tubes run focal have a really warm setup compared to ss amps, the vocals thicken and the instruments become much sweeter, esp the piano.

Unless u hook on focal, no reason to downgrade. You should try the crossover block for BE which cost 2over k to run passive, is a class on its own.

Your current setup is definitely top tier and you are right that without sgsoundsystem forum around, it is harder to sell off ice products. To be frank, I were toying with the idea of dekitting my Stegs as well. Since probably I will need extra boot space so my DLS sub will eventually have to go out of my boot, but since the demise of sgsoundsystem forum to buy sell, like you, I reckon it will take a very long time to sell... :(

Pretty much everything in the above pics have been sold except for the bits and pieces like the capacitor, power distributor, and other wu-eh-boh-eh stuff.

My next setup has been planned for 2 years, but I kept putting off getting it done. Maybe next year :s13:

But over these 2 years I have been collecting the parts for this setup, here's a sneak preview:

My 4-channel amp. I also have a matching 2-channel one that I've not taken pics of ;)

Subwoofer for the next setup - Despite the box, it's actually brand new never used before.

The tweeters. Yeap, these are Z ;)

damn man.. nice brax amps...
anyway i am running on dynaudio 2-way active, with mcintosh power amp bridged, alpine processor and remote, jbl sub woofer. Pioneer HU already in car when i purchased it.

Shallow woofer will still need a box of at least 1cu do the extra space saved is negligible...

Thanks. Do you know roughly what's the cost of doing a custom mount of a woofer into the boot and which audio shop might offer this?

BNice thread!

I used to run a full Sinfoni (2 units 150.2x and 2 units 90.2x), MP Z 3 ways, Alpine F1, morel ultimo and full tchernov cables.. But I've since dekitted all (and lost quite a fair bit). My experience is that the installer or tuner is more important than the equipment. A poor/average tuner will not do justice to the $$ you spent, while a good tuner will do wonders with an average setup.

I'm now running a humble hertz setup (hertz hcp4 + hsk-165 + dba200.3 active sub) :D

Was that an Ultimo or Ultimo SC? I can't imagine running a non-SC on the Sinfoni ... it really needs close to its rated 1000 watts to sound right. Did your sub amp run very hot? Back when I was running the IDMax (which can also take up to 1000 watts) on a Dual Mono (non-Extreme) it seems it was maxing out the amp and it overheated.

Depends on what sort of customization bah. I think maybe around $80 ~ $100 bah. Did not touch ICE for very long liao... Probably, you can go to look for Foon Audio Garage.

Change of car, switched from sedan to hatch, needed a change in layout ... a 12" sub box is impractical for a hatch. Only way was to have my sub in the spare tyre well, but the IDMax magnet is huge ... so ended up with the Ultimo.

$80-$100 might be able to buy you a pre-made basic carpeted box, not sure if you can get 1 for a 12" sub though ... maybe only enough for 10".

A custom box would cost definitely more, although I can't advise how much more ... the only time I paid for these were together with the rest of the setup and I don't have a breakdown of its cost.

Best to speak to the audio shops. If you go to Foon he just might make it himself instead of his workers ;)

Hi guys,

If I change my default toyota altis 2-din touchscreen to a Pioneer AVH-4850DVD, will there be any improvement in sound to my default speakers?

Actually I want to have the USB feature & video input for a rear camera where my default does not have. Would love the AVH-5850BT, but it is too ex.

Thanks in advance.

look for export set for pioneer, that should save u quite abit.

usually changing HU, won't have a big impact in SQ on speakers.
