Thot its normal to be buried in ones birthplace?
It is if they still live in the same country.
But if they have moved they usually dont.

Do you have ancestors who were not born in Singapore? Where are they buried after they have passed? Singapore or their birthplace?

Mr Tang left Singapore after the election and eventually moved to Australia. He also lived in Malaysia and Hong Kong in his later years.

At the wake on Oct 2, Ms Kelly Tang and Mr Brendan Tang said their father had not left instructions for his funeral, but they had arranged for his wake and funeral to he held in Singapore as this was what he would have wanted.

Mr Tang never returned to Singapore, and did not attend the funeral of his wife Teo Siew Har when she died in 2019. She had lived in Singapore with Ms Kelly Tang and her family.

Ms Kelly Tang said her father had stayed interested in Singapore’s current affairs and developments, and read the newspapers every day.

Living alone in Australia and then Malaysia - before eventually moving in with his older daughter and her family in Hong Kong - he threw himself into the study of economics, which became his passion.

He also had an active social life with friends from different walks of life, cultures and faiths whom he discussed philosophy, politics, history and international affairs with, added Ms Tang.

On the 1997 episode, Mr Brendan Tang said his father did not talk about it much in his later years. “But he continued to speak of returning home one day,” he added.

The family declined to comment further on the episode.

Ms Kelly Tang said her father was accepting of the different religions practised by his wife and children, including her Christian faith.

Is it?

I hear from Singaporeans how so many go to Singapore and want to become PR or citizen. These people still go back to die in China?

Not sure abt current generation who came recently. But those who came 100 yrs ago speaking dislect. They still love China and got lots of relatives there. I think now the year 2025, all of them already die. If they are still alive would be 140 or 150 years old now

They all went back to China to die? Really?

I think is the grandparents of some EDMWers here.

Your grandparents from China originally? Did they go back to China to die?

You can look into Francis Seow's history and why he eventually turned from LKY's Blue-eyed boy to being exiled.
Same goes for an important part of 1G team (but head the Union instead of join Cabinet) Devan Nair.

When LKY continued to stay on, whilst Hon Sui Sen/S Rajaratnam/Goh Keng Swee/Toh Chin Chye and rest of 1G leaders stepped down for leadership succession plans. SG was already set on the current path we are at now.

He wanted SG's economy to be dominated by SOEs/GLCs, etc. Once he set the blueprint for that, he placed his relatives/families and cronies, etc. in the SOEs/GLCs, etc.

He practically fostered a culture which was unfriendly towards entrepreneurship, thus we had to eventually utilize grants and kept corporate income taxes low for the Big Banks and MNCs, etc. to set up offices here.

But now as our costs dramatically shoot up, due to SGD + our rentier economy structure they also rather just maintain a satellite office here for Asia-Pacific HQ thus they just outsource majority of labour force to other countries in Southeast Asia.

That is why WP's Kenneth Tiong earlier mentioned about our own government and those linked to it being our own SMEs' biggest competitors once they reached a certain size.

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/sin...te-parliament-ai-job-support-last-day-5371521

That is why you see alot of SME owners just sua and bootlick government to become part of their cronies cycle, so thay they can get some left-over bread crumbs (e.g Town Council projects and Hawker Centres' operating groups, etc.).

You see the gap in our creativity and innovation compared with e.g Denmark, whose population even though smaller than us but can produce Novel Prize Winners and world-class enterprises e.g Novo Nordisk, ISS, Maersk and Lego, etc.

He would never expect his own son to be so incompetent, that need to rely on government being the biggest landlord + running a population ponzi scheme to keep on pumping GDP figures.

And now that our Southeast Asia neighbours are starting to buck up, SG is caught in a conundrum especially given our lack of land size (Thus Strategic depth) and natural resources.
It’s hokay, we have the 65% :(

They probably wished to return to China and be buried in their hometowns

Unfortunately, the kids they brought up continued to be modern day coolies that are facing difficulties paying off their newly upgraded condos and brand new cars that sending the body back for last rites was too much effort mentally and financially

Hmm I guess different generation have different thoughts.

I will be cremated when I die in Canada. No plans to have ashes go to Singapore or anything for me.

I dun think so… PAP never applies the same rules for themselves… on the other hand… Oppositions had been very cautious of their speech and statements ever since all these lawsuits…

PAP had been testing the boundaries of the law all this while… in this sense it is even twisting the law… to their advantage… if all else fails they will even resort to changing laws and constitution to their advantage… we have seen it so many times…
Removal of inheritance tax? :(

He and JBJ, etc. can go find LKY now. Waiting for the rest of those evil person to receive their karmas. Hope those whom sued him receive their well-deserved karmic retribution.

Cannot believed they sued/bankrupt and even went after his family members because he raised a valid important issue in the Nassim Jade Scandal to the general public, at a time when housing prices was shooting up then.
