Hi, can anyone advise if the mi TV stick 4k is better compared to mi box s? It seems like prices in Lazada are about the same.

If you require portability (for travel) then Mi TV Stick 4K. Mi Box S is more suited for stationary use, and has the USB port which is useful to connect accessories and side load apps.

Thanks. I am planning to use it for watching mewatch, YouTube and some Chinese dramas on drama cool only. In this case, is mi box s still the recommendation in terms of performance? I read that mi box s could be slow as the device is now afew years already. I am also considering chromecast 2020. Would appreciate all the advice!

from my experience i never like mi. so far most of my encounter with whatever mi is not favourable.
I have read about google tv chomecast. There are some issue, Google promise to update and resolve those issue
. I think i can trust google better

your requirements are very basic and simple, mi box s, or any other boxes based on android tv os, such as chromecast with google tv, mecool km2, can handle very them very well. mewatch and youtube work very well on android tv os, so do not buy boxes based on handphone/mobile android.

mibox s is not slow, but if you want slightly faster speed, try mecool km2, but don't think you can see any improvement. in terms of hardware quality, xiaomi has an edge over mecool.

chromecast doesn't have a dedicated usb port for external device, so you may have problems if you are new to android box and need to sideload apps.

for chinese drama, dramacool is not the best way to watch, there are better apps such as modvod, iyingshi, iqiyi.

like choo said google tv dont come with usb. My suggestion is get the app sendanywhere into chomecast google tv and set it up.
There after you can download any app or apk in another device and then send it up to you google tv using sendanywhere.

Someone told me the ott box apparently can but only works on tablet???

There is an Android tv version of Viu (different from mobile app version) that you can control fully using your device remote.

However, the Android TV version doesn't pass the device check on devices such as Nvidia Shield and is not installable.

Fortunately you can find "mod" versions (to side load) of the Android TV Viu app online that disable the device check, allowing you to install the proper Viu TV version on Android TV boxes and I believe also Fire TV.

Just search for "mod" viu version

When it comes will try it on my old LG 47" tv to make it useful again.

Tivo Stream 4K is the best value. I ordered one during prime day and it has the same specs as Mi Stick 4K but also has a usb C port you can use an adapter to plug in media storage.

Even with no discount still nearly half price of Mi stick. It's surprisingly very fast and responsive, works with everything except Viu. Only thing is setup requires you to create a one time free tivo account which is pretty easy. Remote also automatically configures the IR to your TV's model on top of the cec control.

i am not sure what is the cheapest TV however, i know that prism is value for money.
The prism + come with android os which can sideload apk.

there are several 32" android tv which are around $200, e.g xiaomi, tcl, prism.

but 32" is a bit small.

So the cheaper and better way is to buy tv box with android tv os.

e.g mibox s, mi tv stick, chromecast with android tv...etc

less than $50 can get you a mi tv stick. and you can use on your bigger TV.

i just installed mewatch. the live channels has alway not working. All else working no issue.
i can guess one possibility is that mibox may have a vpn server serving the content from the box and
that could have cause the issue. Try to set the location if it fail try a Singapore VPN and see if it work
If so my guess should be right

local version. it was working fine until the mibox ui changed presumably after an update. now I get message saying sorry this programme is not available at your location. tried uninstalling/reinstall but same error message.

there is no such thing as local version.

either china version , or international version.

if you are not sure, check the model no underneath the box. it should be something like mdz-xx-xx.

mewatch can run on mibox3 international version (mdz-16-ab), and mibox s (mdz-22-ab).

I can't remember there is an enabling location using wifi option.

by the way, somewhere in the setup process it is asking you for a country, enter usa will do, it has nothing to do with location. it is for setting of wifi parameter.

strangely, I just realized that my YouTube location was set to Netherlands! I don't recall changing this setting in YouTube nor anywhere else. no wonder I was seeing Dutch ads!!!

I have changed it back to sgp. but the mewatch error still persist.
