i kinda agree with u. but still cant accept the rent forever concept. very new to me. anyhow i dont own yangon i do own a cambodia retail pty.. yes its in USD. and i hope it does appreciate over time.
this is the one i bought recently, my friend buy so i went along to see.. affordable lah coz i cant afford 2nd one in sg. http://thebridgeretail.net/
touch wood if really cmi, i max lose USD105k... if still got left over my lost is minimal. if gain then im hoping it to double the price in 10 years.

Sometimes we cannot stop what others insisting their view points. we are sharing the same ideas. maybe they will claim i am a property agent later. Haha ..
The double standard in singapore is very strong ... what this means there is like 2 modes of economy. the HDB and the private mode. the private mode of course sub cat into many layers.
if you save alot and you rent .. yes it make sense. If you are forever single. it make sense if you are young and can shift here and there.
yes if market is bad.
What if opposite ?

there is nothing impossible that prices falls .... if a bomb drops and all gone and things to be rebuilt... yes but i doubt so with cement FOB prices, steel FOB price, bunker, seafreight at a low already. maybe you say the whole world kana bomb then rebuilt again then maybe start from thousands of dollars ...
So we will not go back 10 years ago. Property to drop 20% in singapore will trigger a mass reaction and man in white cannot afford this to happen as we will not majulah but blah kang back... yes cooling measures is to prevent what happen in the crisis period where people jump off 50 storeys due to shares and overlending ...
Try going to Yangon and buy a private lah ... you will be surprise it is not cheap and there are tons of local people in USD ready to buy ... so renting ?
i can't say it is best options nor the worst ...
more or less 10% drop in price is IMO a good steal for me and win win situation for those older properties.
Ratrace ? I doubt so ... it is just to prevent eroding the value of portfoliio.
