Hi all gurus, was quite curious on why cant we connect the mesh to the ont straight?
Why must ont (wired) to router (wired) to mesh (wireless) to 2nd mesh? Please advice. Another qn, i am currently stayin in a mansionette. The ground floor living rm (where the router and mesh supposed to be) and the 2nd floor(bedroom with doors) its almost impossible to get LOS for all the meshes. Haha.. please advise if without LOS will the speed dropped tremendously?
Thks in advance

So i tried it with a few other devices and the results are about the same. The client is able to scan and detect that the signal is strong, since there is another nearby mesh unit, but will not auto roam that unit, and will instead choose to stick to the one which it first connected to, which by now, has a signal so low that i cannot even get connected to the internet.

How do i check that my Mesh units are correctly set up?

Hi kewl, may i check is your issues on the band steering solved? Cos i thk its pretty important for me tat it will swicth automatically rather than manually switching it.. and further more, singtel stated there it will auto band steer. For your updates and advice.

"WiFi Mesh ensures consistent video streaming from any part of your home. It helps to ensure wider home WiFi coverage without the need for wiring or trunking. Unlike WiFi range extenders or boosters, the smart WiFi Mesh technology enables the devices to “talk” to one another to select the best wireless transmission path for your device from any corner of your home. With band steering capabilities, it switches your device to the optimum band (2.4GHz/5GHz) whenever you move from one room to another, ensuring seamless wireless surfing. WiFi Mesh can be easily connected to a Singtel-issued router to extend WiFi coverage in your home."

Because mesh is like an access point which doesn't do routing. You need a router to work and mesh needs a router to be issued with an IP and more IP for its wireless clients.

Mesh works great on one level. If you are thinking of extending wifi to 2nd level, it's unlikely mesh systems will help you. Unless you are able to find strategic locations for u to place the mesh units so that the 2nd unit is in optimal coverage of the first, if not it's unlikely to help. In such case, you'll need an access point on level 2.

Band steering is between the wireless bands, what kewl was experiencing was the inadequacy of client handing over to the nearest node.

I wouldn't say it's a failed mechanism, but i also cannot explain well in a few sentences.

Let me try my best, basically wifi mesh works by creating a wireless net with the nodes and when you roam from one place to another, the wireless signal connected to first node will decrease and speed will decrease. In a complex algorithm, for the device to switch over to the nearest node, there must be a brief period of inactivity on your client first. Once the node discovered that you're low in signal and there isn't any activity, by right it will hand over to another node seamlessly. However in real life situation, there are many factors influencing this and thus there are firmware upgrades to improve on the mechanism.

If my 1st unit is in living room corner near window, my 2nd unit will gotta be inside one of the common room, so there is no way to be in sight with 1st unit leh... so does this mean the connection will fail?
Your first unit needs to be connected by lan. The second unit needs to be in the line of sight with the first unit. You can't expect full performance when you close your room door right?

oh no thats not what i meant..

Your satellite node will tell you if its in optimum coverage of the master node by looking at the LED light...

thats right. if the satellite node is not in optimum coverage, the wifi LED will start to blink red..

ok for those who is interested in my feedback:

Days ago Singtel sent a technician guy. Very young.. older than 19 younger than 25. Colour hair with ear, etc.

He came and just set up the mesh things w/o testing anything first.

Then he went off liao I asked huh like that only?

He said his job is to set up this. i'm quite easy going if nothing goes wrong. and all along i saw the review of these mesh works. so i'm fine he can go back home for rest or what..

Hi endlssorrow,

To clarify on the installation, the Singtel WiFi Mesh units are plug & plug, and requires no other actions from the user.

We would like to know your feedback on our WiFi Mesh units and if they are working well.

But thanks for asking!
Ok for those who wanted to get these, i would say 'can get'.
Not say the signal is very strong to my 'comfort' setting but at least it works. WHY? because the 2nd AirTies i place inside the 1st common room instead of center room or the house. WHY? coz my kids is using the center/middle room. So to avoid 'radiation' , i decided to put inside another room. After all, no complain from my spouse that it does not work at all. The signal i think is about 2 bar?=:p

q1) so how will the bill payment comes? the technician will inform Singtel and then Singtel will charge additional of $10 every month then?

q2) Challenger got sell any better device than this mesh? what the price rang? $200 also?
