Hi,
I recently move in to my new BTO flat and sign up the Wifi mesh. The Singtel technician came and help me hook up everything.
All my rooms come with LAN port so the Singtel ONR is hooked up to all these ports on the Fibre Point. So how the technician connected my devices is, Singtel TV from one LAN port in Living Room and my Singtel AC Plus router to the other LAN port. The first AirTies is connected directly to a LAN Port in my Master bedroom while the 2nd one in my study room wirelessly.
So its working great, but i have two wifi networks. One from the Singtel AC Router and Airties. I understand that for best performance, we should disable the wifi function on the Singtel AC Router and connect the first Airties to it.
But i can't access the router configuration page as its asking me for username and password and keying in the details provided by Singtel does not work. So if my Wifi mesh is working perfectly from the LAN Port, can i move the first Airties to the current Singtel AC Router location and remove it since its redundant.
I don't understand the logic of connecting the Airties to the ac router via LAN cable since i can connect direct to the LAN port on the wall.
Any comments?
Thank you.
Your Airties works as a wireless access point. It needs the router, to provide individual IP address to any devices connected to your wifi.
For example, you have a phone, and this connects to your Airties wifi network. The Airties device, because it is connected to your AC router, allows it to get an IP address from the router, for your phone. This works transparently, and the end result is as if your phone is connected directly to your router.
If your phone connects to the other Wifi network of the AC router itself (which should be turn off since the Airties Wifi is stringer if you have multiple Airties), the result is also the same, except that if you are out of range from the AC router, then your wifi signal will drop.
Your first Airties unit needs to be physically connected to your AC router, be it from a lan point in your room (which connects to your router), or plugged in directly to the router. The other Airties unit will then connect to this first unit wirelessly, so just spread it around your house to get an evenly distributed wifi signal.
