You may have to post the floor plan (with location of the ONT/ONR and the AP5100W nodes) to see if you can optimize the placement to get better results. Do you have LAN ports in the rooms? If using ONT, you may also want to point out which main router you are using.

If the placement is already good, then the better solution is to go for better mesh solution out there. AP5100W is a low end and not-so-good dual band mesh solution. If you do not have LAN ports in the rooms, it is in general a bad idea to use low end dual band mesh solution like AP5100W. And SIngtel specific mesh solutions are all lousy, including Airties, Askey and Arcadyan.

Not sure if it's asked before here.

What would be a decent plan from singtel for a new 4 rm bto ?
and also placement of the mesh/router.

Wired lan cable is at
-living room(Plug to smart tv)
-3rd bedroom (Office) for my PC/Torrent

While masterbed room(another smart tv) and 2nd bedroom will have to survive on wifi.

I'm worried about so many "walls" before the wifi reach my masterbed room.

God damn it..can't post url for link to floor plan.

Floor plan is basically as below..in 1 straight line, living room to Masterbed room

|| Masterbed room || 2nd room || 3rd room (Office|| Living room ||

post the url, but embed some spaces in it, like http: / / www. some domain.com/ specific path goes here

or www dot somedomain dot com slash specificpathgoes here

if it's new bto, aren't the other rooms also wired up?

Mine not all rooms have the lan cable port by default and I only requested ID to do an extra port in the 3rd room.

On hindsight should have get lan cable port at the masterbed room since it's furthest...but too late now.

Strange to hear that new BTO flats do not have LAN ports in the rooms.

In any case, SingTel mesh solutions (Askey, Airties and Acadyan) are not recommended. In fact SingTel is not recommended as an ISP for new sign-up due to the use of ONR, which will be the main router. The ONR has very limited features, for example, you are not able to set up custom DNS server.

But if you only care about wireless coverage then SingTel is still a possible ISP to go with. In that case, you can just go with the cheapest plan and buy your own mesh.

You do not need to subscribe to Singtel Fibre internet. You can subscribe to Singtel TV separately even if you are using other ISPs for Fibre Internet.

Btw, is the ONR a wifi router as well?

I had logged into the admin page and do not see any wifi related settings...

SingTel ONR is a wired router, no wireless function.
Thanks for your reply.

I reckon that.

Now i have to set my Xiaomi 3600 into AP mode manually haha..

Unplug Ethernet cable from xiaomi, cant use app to log in....plug in ethernet cable...app say router not connect...

so later gonna use direct ethernet connection to xiaomi3600

Will Airties 4930/4960R work on other networks (m1/starhub) as Access Point? @xiaofan
Can I use multiple Airties (same model) to mesh?
If I am using wired backhaul, can both Airties be connected to the same switch?

The report from Singtel thread seems to say that it can be used as an AP. But it can not form a mesh with itself or other existing Airties mesh nodes. So there is no point to get multiple units of this Airties 4960R. And I believe that you can not update FW when on the other ISP's network.

In fact, there is no point to use Airties/Askey/Arcydyan mesh solution with other ISPs. You can not update the FW when you are using other ISP.

Even for Singtel users I would not recommend Airties/Askey/Arcadyan mesh solutions from Singtel. Try more proper mesh solution from Asus/Netgear/TP-Link/Linksys.

For Singtel users, if you get the Askey or Arcadyan Wifi 6 mesh solution for free or for low cost, then yes you may want to use it. I believe the wireless performance will be okay if you can use Ethernet backhaul.

The other use case to go with the Airties/Askey/Arcadyan mesh solution is for Singtel TV box, especially if you need to have wireless connection to Singtel TV box. Even then Netgear Orbi is probably a better solution.

Singtel Wifi Mesh add-on plans are pretty bad deal to go with.
https://www.singtel.com/personal/products-services/broadband/wifimesh
1) 2 units of Singtel WiFi 6 Mesh Extenders - Askey, dual band, S$15.14 per month x 24 months = S$363.36

I do not think this is worth it. If you have LAN ports in the rooms so that you can use Ethernet backhaul, you may want to consider Netgear Orbi RBK353 instead, tri-pack at only S$329.
https://netgearstore.sg/products/orbi-rbk353-ax1800-dual-band-3-pack-wifi-6-mesh-system
2) 2 units of Netgear Orbi RBK752 WiFi 6 Mesh AX4200, triband, S$33.31 per month x 24 months = S$799.44

Again this is not worth as Netgear Singapore store is selling RBK752 at S$599.

You seem like a very experienced user.

I have a pretty good groupbuy deal for the ONR + 2 Askey Wifi 6 mesh solution at something like $43/m effective for a 2 year contract.

The only concern I have is if this would be a good enough solution for a 5RM BTO (floor plan attached).

I intend to place one of the mesh units in the living room at the study area and the other in bedroom 2.

However, if I do experience slow speeds I am open to upgrading by changing to Asus RT-AX82U (does it need to pair with another RT-AX82U to work or can I go with something cheaper for the 2nd AP?

Thanks in advance!

I can only say please avoid Singtel offered mesh solutions. However, since the pricing is attractive to you, you can always give it a try.

If the result is not as good as you expected, you can always sell the two Askey Wifi 6 Extender. I expect its price to soon drop to S$50-S$60 so you may want to sell fast. Currently Carousell lists Askey AP5690W dual pack at around S$170 and I expect it will drop to S$100 to S$120 pretty soon.

As for RT-AX82U, you can form AImesh with cheaper models like RT-AX55 (BNIB units about S$80 from Carousell), or RT-AX58U, or TUF-AX4200, etc.

> Singtel ONR + 2 Askey Wifi 6 mesh solution at something like S$43 per month

BTW, recent reported Singtel 1Gbps recontract offer price for reference (after negotiation with Singtel).
1) S$40.40 per month with free one Askey Wifi 6 Extender
2) S$53.40 per month with 8 month free without any free wireless device, effecitve price S$35.60 per month
3) S$53.40 per month with 7 month free with one Askey Wifi 6 Extender, effecitve price S$37.825 per month

So in reality the group buy offer is not super attractive either. If you compare Offer 2 and Offer 3, basically Singtel kind of values the Askey Wifi 6 Mesh Extender (Askey AP5690W) at about S$53.40.

I just got the ASK 5690 and hook up to the ONR. I realized that the AP5690W dose not allow you to change the wifi ssid and password. Or is there a way?
I login to the IP address and it dose not have that setting.
