i'm a bit confused by this example. wouldn't the optimum$ you get be 0.9 instead of zero?
Given ANZ bank's pattern of bad faith (see what happened with their Travel Visa cashback), it seems a matter of time before they change the 5% cashback without notice.
Just cut lor if that happens

Now, the down-side of this card:
1. category "Shopping" ONLY works for merchants in fashion industry. Pretty different from what we perceive "Shopping" is, huh.
2. The cash rebate is only earned per $10 spent. i.e. if you spend $39.90 in a transaction, only the first $30 counts.
3. The "category" you have chosen does NOT automatically roll-over, i.e. if you forget to submit a new category before the beginning of next quarter, you are screwed.
4. The total Optimum$ you can earn in a month is also rounded down. So if you spend hard and earned 0.9 Optimum$ in that month, sorry, you get nothing.
5. The maximum Optimum$ you can earn in EACH transaction is 30. So if you choose travel and think you can earn all 5% of your $1000 plane ticket to Europe, you are wrong. If you think you can earn all 5% of your new $2000 LV purse, you are wrong again. Capped at $30, end of story.
(if you are going to spend more than $600 in one transaction, ask the sales lady nicely to see if she lets you split the amount and swipe your Optimum card twice. I wonder if this would work)
every card has its down-side. let's compare it with the popular UOB One.
1. don't choose shopping then. there are other categories for your disposal.
2. likewise for UOB One. the first tier is $300 spending for consecutively 3 months. if you spend $400x3, you still get $30 dollars rebate. you think it's fair?
3. having memorize to enroll in a particular rebate category is a pain. i can't agree more. but having to remember min of charging 3x per month for UOB One is equally painful and worst still the latter does not based on calender month!!!
4. same as point #02.
5. see point #02.
this is not to say ANZ Optimum Card is any better than UOB One. every card has its pros/cons. to me, they are equally good/bad. you just have to find a card that suits you.
for kachang puteh spenders that loves to charge $0.30 for a pack of tissue paper to a card, even they allow you to do so. how many $0.30 you need to charge to receive the min O$50 redemption? a life time?![]()
Its not fair. Which is why I make sure I just exceed $300 a little and after that its back to my ANZ Travel card to slowly accumulate cashback at 1%.2. likewise for UOB One. the first tier is $300 spending for consecutively 3 months. if you spend $400x3, you still get $30 dollars rebate. you think it's fair?
Likewise any miscellaneous spending e.g. shopping, online, dining I still use the Travel card 'cos I still get 1%. The UOB One card is purely to earn the $30 per quarter by spending just a wee bit more than $300 a month.every card has its down-side. let's compare it with the popular UOB One.

kiwi bank remembers past applicants very dearly

To be more precise, under the 5% category tier, it is 0.1 Optimum$ for every S$2.00
To be more precise, under the 5% category tier, it is 0.1 Optimum$ for every S$2.00
