To replace the battery without paying from my knowledge there's the following options:
1) Battery cycle less than 500 but battery capacity less than 80% (quote article)
2) Apple Care +
3) Apple diagnostics somehow detected some issue with your battery and the genius staff mention it to you
4) Craft a convincing argument to the genius staff as to way your battery needs to be replaced (without you paying)
5) Your device belongs to a batch where apple have identified that there are issues and publicly announced a free replacement/repair programme

Thought it is always the case that battery will only be change when it is at less than 80% during their checks.
Not sure if can insist them to change if u willing to pay $99 even when battery are at above 80%. I guess should be ok as u are paying.

**Last yr got free battery change irregardless of battery % is a one-off event and it is no longer in force

I think last year iPhone X under warranty can change battery even it’s >80% maximum capacity for free. Anyone tried requesting replacement for Xs/Xsmax/Xr? Free?

My Xs 11 month now 92% max cap...

— ok read previous pages, all got rejected :(

Yeah. Last year iPhone X I changed it before warranty ends and battery life is above 90%. No AppleCare+.

So let’s say if my warranty expire next month and my current battery percentage is at around 94% , the staff at Apple store wouldn’t change it for me for free of charge?

Mine is 90%, i ran through with apple support app and then follow up with an appointment at Apple orchard. They changed a new phone for me instead of replacing the battery.

I spoke to the Apple support and he told me to run the diagnostic on my end so that he can see on his end. Apparently 86% battery is ok after one year. So I will not waste my time to go down again.

If XS is still under warranty, battery replacement is FOC?

I am wondering if can just enter Apple store and tell them I plan to use the phone another year and change the battery 🤣
