Apple going to self pwn.
They tried to ARM on Microsoft Windows and it ends up in failure with sibei chui performance and limited support for their software emulation just for better Battery Life.

I don't see how the same won't happen on Apple.
ARM is still not yet ready to challenge x64.

Honestly its all Intel's fault, knn for slacking and trying to milk as much as possible from consumers.

I expect performance gain from AMD to maintain x64 lead against ARM.
Personally I think at least 2-3 years for Flagship ARM to catch up as potential Entry Level CPU for PC.

Hardly the same thing. These are custom ARM chips based on Apple's own design. The apps will be encoded specifically to use these chips. Unlike Windows which has to run on a myriad of hardware, MacOS apps only have to run on a relatively limited number of hardware configurations, making them way easier to code and test.

In any case, this is not the first time Apple has changed processors. No major problems with the earlier transitions.

At least now is all apple control on both software and hardware, not like qualcomm and windows

Cook may have switched over to Ryzen... instead, the transition is more drastic and the last nail on the coffin for Hackintosh...

Hope Apple and Microsoft can sort the technical nitty-gritty, otherwise end of Bootcamp can be painful for some people ending up with 2 laptops...

They have went thru enough testing and development before deciding to go with ARM and not intel. Of cos, they might be wrong, but not to a point i will say self pwned.

More PC makers will switch over to ARM. Already happening for chromebooks.

Looking forward to this. Intel CPU performance is stagnating so hard these few years, my 5 years old PC still don't feel like changing CPU as new intel chips aren't even a huge improvement. Apple have some pretty good chip design teams. Very likely they could leapfrog intel with their own chips.

for all you know, that may have been a factor in the choice of ARM over Ryzen. It's much easier to build a Hackintosh nowadays compared to a few years back.

Very big difference. Apple is just using ARM architecture, but the chip design is their own. Whereas Windows tablets are using qualcomm chips. Apple's chips had always been much better in terms of both performance and power management as with their iOS devices, partly also due to the fact that they have vertical line of control from hardware to software. It's going to be much better performing than windows version.

I don't really think so. Although there are no desktop ARM cpus today. There are server ones. Looking at the numbers, they arent that far behind AMD and Intel ones.

The low power consumption of ARM also means Apple could cramp in even more cores.

I think should have 1 more. This is because Apple says transition will take 2yrs. I feel their highend workstations will be the last to change. So during this time, it will still be Intel ones.

Say bye to Hackintosh.

Anyway not missing either. Happy with Windows 10. Couple of my friends who was on macOS for decades also move to Windows 10 laio.

They had enough of macOS funny issues.

It’s the ecosystem

Just combine the numbers of users on iphone, ipad and Mac

They will have a OS market share on par or higher than windows. This would attract more developers to develop for Apple because they develop 1 time can sell to all Apple users regardless of Iphone or ipad or Mac

I thought that Apple wanna "cut off" Hackintosh once and for all?

I would reckon that once they moved to ARM chipset, Hackintosh will no longer be possible on Intel/AMD machine?
