Do take note once you do an exchange using your apple care+, you wont be able to get your pro rated amount back if you intend to cancel within the 2 yrs.

Ok so I have been researching on the Applecare start date, a lot of people on Reddit and Macrumors said that no matter what, the AppleCare coverage will be backdated to the date of activation, not device purchase date. Note that in SG, we don’t have the subscription option like USA that can purchase monthly plan for AppleCare.

I know some folks here recommended buying Applecare on the 359th day, then buy AppleCare get 2 years extra full coverage. However, if everyone does this in SG wouldn’t Apple lose money? On the flip side, it is like gambling, lets say after 60 days my screen cracks or get liquid damage etc, then the Apple Store Genius Bar specialist will not allow me to buy the Apple Care. However if I really take care for first 11 months 29 days, then I go and purchase Applecare get 2 more years of warranty, can use my iphone for 3 years in total.

Also, note that the logic board repair will usually cost 1k + to repair for out of warranty devices, and there’s a higher chance of failure after 2 years of use, and battery life is also more than likely to fall below 80% during the third year of use, which we can then ask Apple to replace the battery at no additional charge instead of paying 100+ sgd to repair.

Last and final strategy: After using for 2 years, 11 months and 15 days, smash the phone and ask Apple for express replacement, pay $148 for another refurbished phone, then use it again. Like that 1 iphone purchase can last a user 5 years.

To breakeven the cost of AppleCare+ you have to claim at least 2 battery replacements within 3 years. With the new batteries (from iPhone 15 series and newer) rated to retain 80% charge within 1000 charge cycles, it's likely that most users will only be able to claim once within the 3 years period. Heavy usage/gaming then will probably be possible to claim twice.

Accidental damage will have additional service fee for each incident so I doubt Apple loses money given the economies of scale and Tim Cook being a supply chain genius, the bill of materials is probably around the price of each replacement cost. Also, some may not want to use the same phone for so many years.

In the end it depends on the type of user. For those heavy usage and/or clumsy user it'll probably be worth to get AppleCare+, but for most users it is probably still more costly.

Correct. Policy has changed few years back whereby the ac+ start date will be the date when u purchase ac+. Ac+ extend the warranty by another 2yrs from the date it was purchase, and not extend another 2 yrs from phone activation date. These is documented in Apple sg page.

Just use my latest purchase of ac+ for my iPhone 15 pm last year as example. Phone bought on 15 Sep 2023. Ac+ purchased on 22 Sep 2023. Expiry date for my 15PM now shows 21 Sep 2025.

Im now more worried about purchasing ac+ within the first 1 yr. If I intend to buy it on the 11th month, what if Apple change tune and don’t allow us to purchase it after the first 60 days? Remember it’s not documented in Apple sg that we can buy it after 60 days and within 1st year. Like that means I only left 1 month of limited warranty left and not able to extend the expiry anymore.

That’s why the delaying purchase of AC+ to extend warranty comes with risk.

so really depends on each individual risk appetite

Actually if like that, might as well don’t buy apple care, channel the money to new product better.

Because buying apple care+ only cost S$3XX and S$2XX (with EPP) if you intend to use your iphone for longer period. I believe only a few members here are willing to buy apple care+ even if they change their phone every yr. For me, if i buy apple care+ now, it only works out to be around S$11+ per month. And if i never activate any phone replacement, i can get back the pro-rated value if i cancel my apple care+ when i sell off my phone.

Yeah one more question is if I buy new phone but wanna keep the existing phone with Applecare, can I cancel to get a refund?
