Any road bike/MTB to recommend for someone with a budget of max $800-$1000? Looking to replace my 10 year + trek 4100 :(

My stock setup last time was on triple ring. Changed to RF NW 32t ring up front, and a Wolftooth 42t cog behind (was using a 11-36 cassette though).

So it should work but dunno how strong are you for a 32-34 combo. HTH. :)

Just changing my front to a single chain ring. Rear will still be utilizing gear changing on the 11-34. I'm fine with my current setup, so it shouldn't be any different to what I'm currently riding.

Most people change one whole shot cause it evens out the wear but you don't need to if yours has low mileage

Yeah, i see that you mean. The current chain might also need to be shortened to increase tension?

I was also considering if I should just get LBS to remove the 1st and 3rd chain ring and then slap on a chain guide/guard.

Actually come to think about it, it's kinda redundant to just get a RF or BS 32t single chain ring to replace the front? Since the current is already 32t. Unless the removal of the 1st and 3rd chain ring has limitations or is impossible.

for some reason

suddenly become tired of bicycle with speed option

as in used to have bicycle with speed options eg 7, 18 or whatever

now, find them hard to maintain and manage

prefer those one speed or two speed

thinking of selling speed option bicycle to get some with only one or two speed

make sense?

Makes sense, FSC. But I did not experience that before. Only recently...
Invisible tears on the rubber hose which is disintegrating under UVA/B/C radiation. This "no air pumped in first few strokes" fault also could be due to dents/cracks in the inner tube of the barrel. Air can seep through these tears & cracks till the difference in air pressure between the atmospheric pressure and those in the inside the hose + the inner tube of the barrel is normalised, i.e. restored to zero = no more air leakage. No one can deliver air into tires without resorting to devices with constricted spaces that creates air pressure to force air into another constricted space = inner tubes.

Fact of life: Nothing in this world that lasts forever.

Hmmm, I see. Well, it is due to wear and tear then. Wow! Never thought that the pump will not last for more than a year.

Thanks for your comments, again, FSC. :)

How do you use it? All pumps have a limit on the air pressure they can force out of the connector. So now the qn is how much pressure were you trying to achieve with this pump?

If it's a relatively new pump or one that is seldom used and it displays such behaviour, then it is likely to be one that has low build quality = flawed design which prescribes the inner workings of the pump, the mechanics of its operations, the materials list and how the different materials are assembled.

You may be able to locate the fault by detecting air leakage by performing some simple tests.
