We all have been through the same stage lah. Speaking of foldies, during the NPark saga, Brompton really interests me but the price point kept putting me off. End up I bought Tahara, Tern, Dahon before I end up with my Brompton P6R. I can say that money wise it would have been better to have just bite the bullet with Brompton in the first place. But on reflection, having owned the first 3 gave me experiences and knowledge compared to having owned only a brompton. These memories are precious in their own right too.

Thanks for the encouraging way. Yes I would like to experience the process and of course due to my financial restraint I will go through this phase.

actually how difficult it is to change the rim of a rear wheel? need a lot of tools?
Rim or Rim tape? Rim means you'll need a new rim (obviously), a set of spoke nipples (they can't be reused), possibly a new set of spokes (if some are damaged, you might be better off replacing the set as the "undamaged" ones may have taken more load), a wheel truing stand, and then rebuild the wheel. You'll also need the spoke wrench for the nipple size.

I have a set of old model XT hubs at home with rims, but I haven't figured out how to calculate the required spoke lengths so I haven't bought any. :s13: And I don't have a truing stand either, so I may have to "rebuild" it and then pay someone to true the wheel, which is kinda nuts. Kinda why I gave up on attempting it.

Edit: You may watch this to have an idea of what it entails:

Can buy rims then ask wheelbuilder to reuse old hubs right? But got to make sure hub and rims got same number of holes to match. I had asked Wesley, when he was still in C2C, to help me built up a wheelset last time using a set of used XT hubs last time. I think Tiong Hin uncle also built wheels but gotta check if he is still doing it.

Why buy that? For about $450 can get edge 810, with navigation, just pay $100 more nia.

Waste money these 2 garmin, not cheap some more. $200 for bundle still can consider.

$410 can get edge810 ??? no way. unless you talking about pounds.

and sadis..$40 is not really a different.

Are you thinking of doing touring?

Yup. Current tent too broken already. Current sleeping bag too bulky :(

Doing the Loire à Vélo route, Eurovelo 3 + 6 + Southern Black Forest + Danube River trail.

Many years ago I did France from north to south; Lille to Monaco and then into Italy's Po Valley. I then rode into Austria to follow the Danube River to Vienna before heading into Czechoslovakia and Hungary. (I've done almost 20 countries in Europe, Middle East and North America. Self-supported.)

I didn't know that someone else on here was planning on bike touring! Most posters are racers or mtbers. There is one other person who tours but he is not on often.

When are you thinking of going? If the weather is mild, you can consider a bivy sack.

Sep. Have friends in France who will probably do the France part with me.

You did downstream for the Danube River? Am thinking of doing upstream though. Cos I would like France to be my last stop. But now the plan is France first stop. As for Danube, I'm not sure if I should stop in Vienna and do the Amber Trail or head to Budapest.

Not keen in the bivvy bag. I'll probably be making my own bikepacking bag. Don't think I wanna get racks + panniers. We sold the ones we had before to a friend.

You can go upstream or downstream the Danube. It's relatively flat and should make no difference.

I went on to Budapest so cannot say anything about Amber Trail. Budapest is lovely and quite dramatic in terms of scenery. Overall, Austria was the best looking country in Europe. Scenery was just fantastic.

The good thing is if you make your own packs and something bad happens or you need more cargo capacity you are in a great place to buy more gear. :)
