Depends what errands. Maybe sometimes not possible to push in a bicycle? I dont know.

Crius can mount a rack behind.

Most bikes can mount rack behind. :s13:

Its the other extras:

Brompton has this:

Tern/Dahon has this:

Any bags using Klickfix attachment system can be mounted without affecting steering.

All these bikes can mount rear racks and front luggage.

Thanks for the inputs, i like the idea of pushing the brompton to anywhere i like, just trying to justify the value to myself, and 2nd hand ones lowest ive seen is 1.8 for 6 speed...like many have stated the proprietary part is an issue... is the 6 speed more than sufficient for Singapore? im not a speedster.
Honestly, the way i look at brompton, i dunno if the build is solid, there are so many plastic components on it. Although i did read review that they are build to last , etc.

Of course birdy seems like a good bike,i saw one 9 speed alivio 2.5k. given the suspension, and components, is the value good? i know it is not as portable as brompton, but any1 tried commuting like rolling it around, how does it roll when folded reasonable?

Of course i do take into consideration of dahon, tern and crius, looks reasonably valued when i was researching, just that if i were to buy these, i think i will only ride on PCN with it.

So far i tested a tern d8 or n8, can't really rmb. it was smooth while riding and i can use 1 wheel to roll when folded.

I have the Dahon Speed D8. Went to Coney Island. Pretty comfortable ride. Not a problem hitting 20+km/hr. Im usually on the roads though.

Tern rides ok.. value for money. Plenty of luggage options but it is not the best bike to roll around after folding. And it is not compact too. You are correct in the sense it is more of riding long distances with it.

6 speed brompton is way more than sufficient in Singapore. You have to choose the color, the configuration (S, M, H, P bars), the gearing (44T, 50T or 54T) and the rear (R rack with fender, L fender with roller wheels, or no fender E). Like i mentioned earlier, if you don't climb steep slopes, a 2 speed brompton is sufficient, and it's much cheaper too.

What's your budget?

Brompton has a long history behind them, one of the reasons why they stick to steel frame while others have alum, carbon, titanium. Think many of the foldie available ain't design to fold and roll, but rather fold for storage, also don't be fool if anyone tell u it is light enough to be carried around, even at 10kg, it will weigh you down sooner or later. I do know birdy has a modified rear rack that has wheels to help with the rolling. I personally don't like the design on the birdy, especially the front wheel. But that is just me=:p

Biikes such as Tern have the motto... "Bikes that fold".

Hence, these bikes are designed to ride first rather than designed as folding bikes. It rides well but not compact and can't roll.

Bikes like brompton are designed to be folding bike first rather than being designed to ride. That's why the gear shifting is just awful.

Personally, i am looking at another bike. Birdy or Bike Friday. Tyrell is too big to fit into my cupboard after folding.

Im looking at 6 speed, because i am interested to cycle around.
Since im looking at brompton, my budget could be as high as 2.8? of course im still deciding...

i understand, but i just feel that they are using too much plastic for the housing of so many things...

Any foldie that is easy to roll around when folded and rides well/fast?

Interesting. How did you do your research and come to a decision on buying this wheel? I'm trying to do my research but don't know where to begin.

OK la..

I just searched 451 wheelset on taobao and came across this. :s13:

You have to use chinese terms to search.

锦麟-- kin lin.. famous for building light but high quality rims.

花鼓--- hub

辐条-- spokes

法嘴-- presta valve (french)

胎垫-- rim tape

74mm 开档-- front OLD 74mm

后130mm开档-- rear OLD 130mm

培林-- bearing

铜帽-- brass nipple

You have to understand your bicycle wheel config before searching for newer ones to replace.

How you define easy to roll around?

Tern has rack roller wheels but difficult to roll around.

Normally, we do not install the trolley rack; instead we roll this way:

It is more troublesome...

Brompton has built in roller wheels:

Birdy has aftermarket roller wheels...

Impression of the s42 litepro 406 74 130mm wheelset

Basically it's a 42mm 406 rim mated to a 74mm front hub and 130mm rear hub

Its not cheap at 320 SGD or so, but the service I got was good from the local parallel importer

The finishing looks good, but that's where all the good stuff ends

At 300 sgd I expect a properly tensioned and true wheel but what I got while it is true, the spoke tension was off

The hub bearings are a little small but they are fine, the rear wheel ratchet seems a bit rough maune have to ride it to come to a conclusion

The rims, I suspect the drilling of the rim hole for one rim was not totally straight, just slightly off, it doesn't affect riding it .
