Nope. If the person is really good, the company can pay more (usually 10k to 20k per annum more)
Because the person you are dealing with is lousy.
Its like eating at Macdonalds vs eating at high class restaurant. Technically both are eating places, but the prices are different and service standards also different
So which companies should i look out for? So far Robert Walters, Swisslinx, Westwood partners and Selby Jennings all one night stand me![]()
Past track records of leading teams or leading projects
Not just degree. Can be ACCA for example as a replacement for degree

So head hunters actually hunt for people who are in the same position to change allegiance only rite.
they dun "promote" people rite (example: headhunt pm to be ad)
No. The client pays the fee.
First advantage is very expensive to engage so they are only usually used for high level roles
now job market is good mah ?

What is your opinion of an interviewee who has only ever been in contract positions? say, the person changed jobs 3 times in the past 8 years but all contract position.
What would your first impression be? Is there any way he / she can improve your impression of them?
Do you think that, using the experience gathered from the past 8 years, this interviewee can secure a permanent job in the near future?
As we all know, one of the aims is to get a permanent position rather than contract and at a MNC, waiting for one might not be an option. Any suggestions / views?
Never heard of westwood partners before
Selby Jennings has a bad reputation in the recruitment industry in Singapore
RW i heard is quite ok but i never deal with them before
Swisslinx also i never heard before.
The better companies are like Robert Half, Talent2, etc.
A bit complicated so let me explain.
Let's say if job requires person to have criteria A, B, C, D and E
The HR will determine how many of the criteria from A to E you tick. The more ticks you get the higher your salary offer.
They will also have this thing called internal equity.
Let's say you have 3 years relevant experience. The HR will then look at everyone in his department, how many years exp, and how much they are paid, and compare with you.
I got screened twice by First Advantage. Previous and current job.
They really called/contacted my university in UK and checked the validity of my degree.
They also contacted my last few companies.
And I think they are charging USD1K per candidate, correct me if I am wrong.
Just wondering, if I was interested to enter the finance sector in SG, how competitive would I look if lack of experience.
Age:29
undergraduate begree from U Penn (PPE)
4 years exp as an MOE teacher in SG
Now in the US;
working at a local U with Uni admissions (contract job).
May jump over to a private investment firm end of year. (They're own by BoA)
job scope is working in forecasting department.
Let's say if I stay there for 3-4 years, by the time mid 30s go back SG, got chance for 'higher' positions ? Or will i be treated as a freshie again ?

Few things to establish.
1) I have a real job. So i might not reply quickly but i will try to respond to as many posts as possible but i will not respond during weekends so much (I have a family with a baby to take care of)
2) Do not send me private messages.
3) Do not ask me about my job
4) Feel free to ask anything else as long as it is not nonsensical. I will not respond to nonsense responses.
5) Do not ask me for jobs. I don't have lobang for you. This is more of an advisory thread
My background.
7 years in this line
Specialize in executive search (Salaries above 4k) but i used to do lower level recruitment last time
True blue sinkee.
Depends on what you define as finance sector.
A bank for example, has many different job scopes. Some jobs are easier to get into than others. contract jobs are easier to get into. If you are good in academic, can apply to be in their management associate program (MA) which will mean you will be fast tracked to senior management (people take 5 years you take 3 years)
Depends on whether what you did is relevant to the job you applying for.
Oh ok.. thanks.. I also got approached by RGF, Magellan Partnership, Pemberton Stewart and Cavendish Bloom.
Only Cavendish Bloom reliable.. got me my current job.
So my next question is, do headhunters treat their candidates like meat, push to which ever company in their portfolio?
hmm, it's more complex than I thought. In this case, how does last drawn pay fit into the picture?
In addition, do you normally see more successful placements from lateral hires (ie. candidates being hired have similar level of experience/seniority to the requirement) or more from junior candidates into more senior roles (e.g. AVP to VP roles, engineer to senior engineer roles, etc)?
Fwah elite.
Can tell us roughly how much you earn? Or what job?
Curious to know what warrants a screening by First Advantage...
is there an age limit for these kinda things ?
