I always favour Yamaha receivers so I hope my upcoming purchase will be a Yamaha Home Theater surround system.

The probable setback for the higher end Yamaha receivers would be power consumption, as they should be very power hungry so electrical consumption should be very high if left on a long hours (6 - 8hrs) per day?

We appreciate your support these years very much.

I guess you mean higher range of AV Receivers would consume more electricity.

Well, in this aspect i would say to have better output power, consuming more electricity is a must for all manufacturers.

If you wish to look for environmental-friendly features, consider our RX-V3067 at following consumption of electricity.

Standby Power Consumption (HDMI Off/Standby Through Off) 0.3 W
Standby Power Consumption (HDMI On/Standby Through On) 2.7 W
Standby Power Consumption (NET Standby On) 4.5 W

In fact, Yamaha has been trying to be environmental friendly since our V67 series of AV Receivers and the lower-consumption of electricity would be mostly in "Standby Mode". When driving a Movie with speakers, power output is important. So it will consume more electricity when you need a good dynamics in your speakers.

Deciding on a sound bar

Hi, i am interested in either the YHTS400 or the YSP2200BL. I understand that the YSP2200BL has the Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD encoder in the product itself but do i need the encoder in the soundbar if i had a PS3 that i want to connect it to which had already the encoder build-in. I was told by the salesman at one place that i can just get the YHTS400 and i would be able to get the same sound effect since the PS3 has the encoder. Is it true? If that is true, why should i get the YSP2200BL who is priced more?

Please advise, sorry for asking cause i am a newbie on this.

Well, this thread was created for such enquiries so don't feel sorry.

So what the salesman said was correct in decoder built-in in PS-3 and using Multi-Channel PCM signals to transfer to YHTS400.

But allow me to explain here..

What if one day you decided to purchase a standalone Blu-ray player / HD Audio sources and you need the System itself to decode the HD Audio signals? (Where YHTS400 cannot decode HD-Audio).

As a consumer, we would always want to be future-proofed. So the YHTS400 is not able to decode HD-Audio, only standard Dolby Digital and DTS. If one day, you had bought a standalone BD Player and you need YHTS400 to decode, YHTS400 cannot do the job to decode HD Audio, but only downstream the HD Audio signals into standard DTS /Dolby Digital (If you don't mind).

Differences in our Front Surround System:

1. AirSurround Extreme type: (YHT-S400) is classified under Virtual Surround category of Front Surround System.

2. Digital Sound Projectors type: (YSP-2200 / YSP-4100 / YSP-5100 & all other older models of YSP) is a Genuine Discrete Surround category for Front Surround Systems.

Each YSP models works differently against all other Sound Bars models. YSP models are discrete surround where you can differentiate the Front Left, Right, Center, Surround Left, Right channels distinctively against Virtual Surround types of Sound Bars. Each drivers in the YSP are individually powered by a small digital amplifier to project the sound from different angle to achieve discrete 5.1 ch surround sound and not virtual types.

Hope i have given you a clearer picture of why you should pay more for a YSP models.

Hi Ling,

The YSP-2200 will not so call overkill for your bedroom. It is design for small room, need not mount, and simple usage but wanted a true 5.1ch surround sound and support of latest technology of HD Audio, 3D and Audio Return Channel.

While YSP-4100 and 5100 will be suitable for bigger room, i suggest you hang on for our National Day promotion.

My 1 month old P95 Damper pedal will produce a squeaking sound when being stepped on, while the other 2 won't. Will warranty cover this? if yes, do i have to send out my P95 myself or will the service man come to my house to inspect it.

Hi all, I'm thinking of getting either of the above and wondering if where's the best place to get them. I know that the S400 only decodes standard DTS and not the higher definition formats. As I have a media player that outputs DTS signals out, how should I connect the setup? Other machines I have is a starhub hubstation HD and BD player, and possibly a xbox360 in future. Please advise price and setup configurations please!

Hi boxster,

For your setup of media player, if it supports HDMI, you will select HDMI as 1st priority. If there is no HDMI, you will use either Coaxial / Optical connections.

Other sources like HD Set-Top Box from Starhub and BD Player will use HDMI also.

Future XBOX will depends on which connections will the XBOX supports.

Priority always as follow:

1. HDMI
2. Coax / Optical

Hi!

You can purchase a RF Cable with the connector like below:

from any electrical shops in Sim Lim Square or retailers like Best Denki, Courts or Harvey Norman.

Some HDB areas have small electrical shops may have it too.

Using this RF Cable to connect to your Starhub Box will achieve better Radio reception for your RXV465.
