Just wondering, how's u36jc performing comparing with acer's timelessx 3820tg? need a lightweight + performance lappy for traveling + work.

i'll pick whichever is more powerful, batt life and the price of these 2 isn't really an issue. any idea please? :o

would the asus u41 be a better choice over the u36??

$100 cheaper + better graphics card, larger screen and a dvd-drive.

the only tradeoff i guess is its 2.1kg compared to the u36 1.7kg??

oh. wonder if it has the heat issues of the u36 also?

Well engadget dumps U260 because of the battery... engadget.com/2010/12/27/lenovo-ideapad-u260-review/
2hrs 56 running video. The battery is 4 cell, only 20whr.

In comparison the Asus runs much longer, but of course it is not nearly as stylish.
U36Jc: 8 cell, 83whr, 4 hours in high performance and 6hrs in power saving. Be carfeul to get the 8-cell and not the 4 cell, except if you don't like it sticking out in the back.
techbuzzblog.com/mobile/2011/03/asus-u36-review.html

Processor
U260: Intel ULV Core i5 470UM (1.33GHz, 3MB L2 cache)
U36Jc: Intel Core i5 480M @ 2.53GHz (2 cores, 4 threads, Turbo Boost 2.8GHz)

The difference lies in the Ultra Low Voltage (ULV) design and of course in the processor speed. It is both Core i5 but definitely NOT the same processor! For more information on the difference you have to dig up some comparisons on your own.

Wonder if your guys know of Starhub promotion for this U36..

FREE with sign up 24 months contract on maxonline packages

OR

redeem 500 points w $999 cash topup.

BUT there are differences between starhub & retail set (IT show):

(starhub vs retail set)
- RAM 2GB vs 4GB
- 4 cells vs 8 cells battery
- 1 year vs 2 years warranty

among all here hv stated

seems like 3820TG is the only all-rounder machine here.

speed, weight, battery life, price.

A..... izzit this a thread to share information about U36? :D

Anyone bought it at the IT Fair, can pm me the price you got it? Was told to go down but cant leh. Busy with classes till nite time.

Was told there you can dump all the free gift for lower price. There seem to have free ram upgrade to 6gb. I guess that would be 2gb + 4gb. Can someone give more detail?

One more thing. With the 8cell battery, is the thickness still at 19mm?

is not alot heavier, is still pretty slim on top of that - it comes with a reasonable all rounder.

can U36JC beat that?

This is subjective.....depends on how you want to compare.......

Pros
Powerful and fast for a 13.3" notebook
Excellent build quality
Sleek, business-like design

Cons
Can get hot during load
Sub-average screen

erm.. what is so powerful for the U36JC? The poor GPU?

can get hot during load... overheat and become a goner?

then how is the U160 model? its using a i7 cpu. going at $999. and 6cell batt.

Well 11.6 is just too small for me and I won't even compare it to the U36 cuz for me it is in another category. I haven't read much about it, but the processor is also ULV and I believe it suffers from the same battery issues.

But it looks nice ;)
