If you do not mind no local warranty, then Asus China version is much cheaper at RMB 2049 (plus shipment and GST)
https://www.asus.com.cn/store/gallery-476.html
Take note 11.11 offer just finished. You may wait for 12.12 offer.

TUF-BE3600 ==> RMB 499 (no offer)
TUF-BE6500 ==> RMB 799 (no offer)
RT-BE86U ==> RMB 1629 (usual price at RMB 1799)
RT-BE88U ==> RMB 2049 (usual price at RMB 2199)
Bro @xiaofan is the BE86u still as good as the previous gundam 86u? I still like that 86 series.

Bro @xiaofan is the BE86u still as good as the previous gundam 86u? I still like that 86 series.

I am still using the RT-AX86U as an AP after my main router (Intel N100 CPU based mini PC with dual 10G SFP+ ports) for my SingTel 5Gbps plan (ONR 10G LAN port bridged). I like the vertical form factor. My other AP is Asus TUF-BE6500 (used to use ZTE BE7200+ Pro more often).

In terms of ratings:
RT-AX86U > RT-AX88U

RT-AX86U Pro (single 2.5G port) < RT-AX88U Pro (dual 2.5G ports)

RT-BE86 (1GB RAM, one 10G port, quad 2.5G ports) < RT-BE88U (2GB RAM, one 10G RJ45 port, one 10G SFP+ port, quad 2.5G ports, quad 1G ports)

If you use RT-BE86U with 5Gbps plan, I think it is still okay. If you want to use it with 10Gbps plan, then not recommend unless you do not plan to have single 5Gbps or 10Gbps capable wired device.

Asus router malware issue has been reported.
Better to disable AIcloud for now (I am not using this feature myself) and check for Asus FW updates.

I have upgraded my Asus RT-AX86U running Asus Merlin FW.

From here:
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/asus-wifi-7-and-wifi-6e-routers.6952409/page-32

Other forum is reporting ASUS router malware, one of them had 100% CPU usage on 1 core. Although only reported on AC and AX routers, might affect newer routers as well.

There are fixes in the latest firmware. Do keep your firmware updated.

https://www.snbforums.com/threads/malware-damaging-asus-routers.92752/

Thanks for the heads-up. This was also mentioned by another forum member whose RT-AX86U was damaged by the malware.

Better to disable AIcloud (I am not using this feature myself) and check for Asus FW updates.

Asus has not released the FW fix for RT-AX86U yet. Merlin has the fixed FW released for Asus WiFi 6 router supported by Merlin, including RT-AX86U. My RT-AX86U is running as an AP after OpenWRT router. But I will upgrade to new Merlin FW over the weekend.

Today I also did a check to confirm that Asus China TX-AX6000 has exactly the same FW as Asus Global version TUF-AX6000.

You can also see that Asus has released the updated FW to fix the AiCloud related issue.
Enhanced AiCloud password protection mechanisms, safeguarding against unauthorized access attempts.

Just carry out another check to confirm the Asus China model has exactly the same FW as Asus Singapore model (Global model).

From the SHA256 checksum, we can see the firmware file is exactly the same.

RT-AC86U
RT-AX56U
RT-AX82U
RT-AX86U
RT-AX86S
TUF-AX5400

Quick check:
New FW has been released for RT-AX56U, RT-AX58U, RT-AX3000, TUF-AX3000, TUF-AX4200, RT-AX5400, RT-AX82U, TUF-AX5400, TUF-AX6000, RT-AX88U, GT-AX6000, RT-AX86U Pro, RT-AX92U, GT-AX11000, RT-AXE7800, GT-AXE11000 and GT-AXE16000, but not RT-AX86U/RT-AX86S (strange). Even the supposedly RT-AC86U has got the FW updates.

RT-AX89X also does not seem to get the FW updates --> not so sure if it is affected or not.

Asus ZenWiFi XT8 (different FW for HW v1.0 and v2.0), ZenWiFi XT12 Pro, ZenWiFI Et12 Pro and ROG GT6 have also got the FW updates.

Interestingly the lower end RT-AX53U, RT-AX55, RT-AX57 and RT-AX3000P also have the same type of FW updates but I do not think they support AIcloud.

The FW update version info will mention the following. The updates were released in Nov 2024.
1. Strengthened input validation and data processing workflows to further protect information security.
2. Enhanced AiCloud password protection mechanisms, safeguarding against unauthorized access attempts.
3. Enhanced device security through improved buffer handling in connection features.
4. Refined data handling processes, ensuring secure and accurate information management.
5. Enhanced file access control mechanisms, promoting a more secure operating environment.
6. Strengthened certificate protection, providing enhanced data security.

Asus ZenWiFi XD4/XD4S, XD5 and XD6 have a bit different FW update info, as they do not support AIcloud. So they are probably not affected by the malware. The updates for these models were done in Oct 2024.
1. Optimized memory management mechanisms, improving system efficiency and stability.
2. Strengthened input validation and data processing workflows, further protecting your information security.
3. Improved web rendering engine, enhancing browsing experience and security.
4. Enhanced security of system command processing to guard against potential malicious operations.
5. Perfected JavaScript-related security mechanisms, offering a more secure web interaction environment.

I continue the check for a few models which are sold in China but not in Singapore.

Asus TUF 小旋风Pro WiFi6 AX4200, TUF-AX4200Q (dual 2.5G ports) is different from TUF-AX4200 (single 2.5G port). However, the FW file of Asus China TUF-AX4200Q is the same as local version TUF-AX200. Apparently Asus combined the firmware of these two different models.

Asus China Router Pricing for reference, 12.12 should be cheaper (no more 11.11 pricing now).
https://www.asus.com.cn/store/gallery-78.html

1. WiFi 6 --> TX-AX6000 (usually price at RMB 699) is a good one that I will recommended.

TUF-AX4200Q (dual 2.5G ports) can also be considered (usual price at RMB 599).

RT-BE86U Pro (single 2.5G port) is not bad at RMB 1299 but RT-BE86U is a better choice at RMB 1749.

RT-BE88U Pro (dual 2.5G ports) is not bad in terms of spec but then at RMB 1689 it is not cost competitive, RT-BE88U is a better choice.

FNariuf.png

2. WiFi 7 --> RT-BE88U, TUF-BE6500 and TUF-BE3600 are more recommended. RT-BE86U is okay if you like the form factor.

RT-BE88U -- RMB 2049, 10G RJ45 port, 10G SFP+ port, quad 2.5G ports, quad 1G ports (suitable as main router for 10Gbps plan)

RT-BE86U -- RMB 1749, single 10G port, 1GB RAM (suitable as main router for 5Gbps plan if you do not need to support 5Gbe/10Gbe wired device, not that recommended for 10Gbps plan)

TUF-BE6500 -- RMB 799, quad 2.5G ports (suitable as main router for 2.5Gbps/3Gbps plan)

TUF-BE3600 -- RMB 499, single 2.5G port (more suitable as mesh node for 2.5Gbps plan and above, okay as main router for 1Gbps plan)

Did you change the default name and password ? If not, check the bottom of the router for the default credentials. Else, you need to make sure there is definitely no typo on your part.

Yup, there is no typo on my part.
I suspect there is some settings on the router or my pc causing the problem...

Since this is local set you should be able to get a new replacement set since it should be within 3 years warranty period.

You may want to contact MyRepublic first and then see if you need to get replacement from MR or Asus Singapore.

Yes correct. I am going to Asus service Center in Kallang now. Hope can do 1-1 exchange smoothly. MyRepublic sent me my invoice and told me to proceed, also called the Asus service Center they said no need appointment.
