I NEED A MICRO SD CARD SLOT

Actually, for ard the same price, i would prefer the Nexus 7 1st gen which is now going for only $280. U get a better quad-core soc plus other things like stock Android and even NFC. All in, the Nexus just feels like a classier and better built device while the Memopad HD7 feels like a budget offering. The main thing u will lose out though, is of course the msd slot

I agree that not having the msd slot on the Nexus 7 sux. I was quite sure that i would not buy a Nexus because of this until i couldn't resist a very gd offer from a forummer advertising his nexus for sale. At least there is support for OTG so i can still play my media stored on an external usb thumbdrive.

Having said that, aside from the msd slot, i cant agree that the HD7 is better than the 2012 Nexus. For one thing, the Tegra 3 is a much more established chip than the Mediatek MT8125 and most developers will make sure that their apps work with the Tegra 3 which was used in most branded quad-core tablets until the Snapdragons emerged. And using stock Android is very refreshing after all the bloat of Touchwiz, Sense etc etc

Hi guys. Jus hooted nexus 7 2013 instead. Ever since they released the hd7 prices, decision was hard for me as the hd7 and n7 prices aren't too much of a difference. Say S$60? Either go for performance or msdc.

So don mind sharing my thoughts.

1- 2gb ram. I worried new android os requires more ram for multitasking.

2- display. Kinda picky with comes to resolutions. Don ask me why. Haha

3- Google updates. This is my first purchase of a Google product. Read somewhere that when comes to updating firmwares, Google is fast. I Maybe wrong. Don take my words. But! I owned a padfone2 and updates are crazy slow.

4- I rely on amazon reviews. They are honest reviews from consumers. I jus believe every word they say. Haha.


So so guys, if ur on a tight budget, go for hd7. If u don mind topping up a little and lose the msdc, go for n7.

I know this is a Asus memopad HD7 thread but for those who have not bought yet, here's an option u may want to consider.

I was just at Challenger Changi City Point and they are clearing the 2012 NEXUS 7 32GB WIFI for only $249!! Btw, this is the same Nexus 7 that Comex stalls across the road are selling for $399!! The price is so attractive that i had to stop myself getting another one!

At $249, it's the same price as the HD7 (unless you get from Open Surface at $239) but you get a Tegra 3 instead of a Chinese Mediatek soc, 32gb instead of 16 gb, NFC, faster updates and better build quality overall (IMO). Of course u lose the msd slot but OTG is supported.

For those who have already bgt their HD7, you have a fine tablet which i am sure u will enjoy. For those who are still considering, this is another option worth considering.

That said, having used mine for 9 days now as a shakedown run, I think I'm ready to give a post 1 week impression

That said, gotta gather up all my materials first, and separate the technicalities and the more human aspect of things

Not disagreeing with that for sure, but what I was mentioning is 'base' class 4, which makes sense if you're gonna use it as a storage for media consumption rather than high speed I/O and/or read/write applications.

The cost difference would make sense for people who'd be looking for a budget tablet like the HD7, such as students or those who're really strapped on cash

Anything lower than a Class 4 (eg Class 2 or Unmarked) would be a bad idea as it's one of the primary reasons Android would lag

Ideally, one'd go for a 64GiB UHS1 card or above for the tablet, but if that's the case, the tablets used in question would unlikely be a HD7 already, but rather something along the lines of the Xperia Tablet Z, those Toshiba Excites, a Galaxy Note 8 or 10.1 and perhaps the upcoming LG G Pad 8.3

thanks for the assurance, buying online is always a gamble. but anyway, I'm waiting to see if Challenger would be cheaper with a member price. Does anyone knows whether Challenger started selling yet?

Battery Life Updates

To summarize, it's quite impressive

Not all the details tend to show up however, and I'm rather surprised the world clock tool takes up so much battery power... Constant wifi connection I guess, wakelock from the app prevents wifi from sleeping... same issue with the Xperia Z using that widget

Anyways, the screen's used at a near constant 50% brightness except when almost going to sleep and reading an ebook, where it's reduced to 0% and layered over with a software gray screen filter (Opera Classic, Chrome, EZPDF and Quickoffice did not show up on the apps battery consumption breakdown for some reason)

The battery life has been consistent in the past 10 days of the shakedown run
