Nice phone and nice WiFi 7 routers.

You should be able to get pretty good WiFi 7 speed at close range for 6GHz band.

Maybe you want to post your 6GHz speedtest results here to see if you can break the record in this forum. 🤣

Diff product range mah, 1 is mesh router, 1 is full-fledged router. Both same data rate just that BQ16 is quad band, B96U is tri-band.
sorry, im abit noob on the router. but what is the main difference between mesh and full fledged? all the while I thought a single mesh = full fledged router (assuming all other spec eg, Ports, CPU, RAM/ROM same)

Just curious where and how much did you buy your TUF-BE6500 for?
I got mine from Carousell for $200, brand new sealed. The seller got it for 150 including shipping but had to wait for about a month for delivery he mentioned. But honestly in my personal opinion it's completely worth the money (even the extra 50 I paid as i wouldn't want to wait haha). I see better speeds even on my old laptop with wifi5/AC 9560 card, even better than my very best GT-AX6000 which i consider the best AX device I've used so far.
Would also like to mention that I'm going through this once again since the AX time (a few years back) when I first bought my AX88U and for months tried speed tests, looked for fw updates, scanned the interference and paranoid about how can I achieve maximum numbers. Here I am in 2024 doing it all over again 😂. Got a HB810 from Carousell start of this year and did a lot of RND and managed to get into the superadmin mode for extra tweaking and disabling ISP access but was missing the AsusWrt features dearly so sold it and been experimenting with various Asus routers, but so far very pleased with the Tuf be6500s numbers :)

Wah dunno how to explain. I always felt their routers standalone will be more powerful, not sure placebo or what hahaha. Nvm uh just buy and try, hehehe.

Asus maybe differences not much, now they narrowing the gap but for other brands, the differentiation for routers and mesh is still there but I traditional. I prefer router outlook. Maybe that will change but BQ16 looks nice haha.

Many people will like the ZenWiFi design with internal antenna. The technology has improved so that internal antenna is now not so bad.

But between flagship ROG router model versus ZenWiFi model, ROG router model will usually win with more features like more ports and exclusive gaming features. Still I will say Asus ZenWiFi line has been improved.

1) Asus ZenWiFi XT8 has good wireless performance but the spec inside is much worse than ROG GT-AX11000 (lower end CPU, lower RAM, 2.5G port is only for WAN, flagship price with low end HW spec). I can not consider it as flagship model at all.

2) For ZenWiFi XT12 Pro, at least the CPU is the same as GT-AX11000 Pro, but no 10G port. At least it can be considered as a flagship already. The gap is much smaller than 1).

3) ZenWiFi ET12 Pro at least has the same CPU as GT-AXE16000, but not quad band and no 10G ports. So the spec difference is still quite big, wider gaps compare to 2).

4) For BQ16 vs ROG GT-BE98, then the gap is a bit smaller, both has the same CPU and same dual 10G ports, same quad band BE25000 rated. But BQ16 somehow lacks 2.5G ports. ROG GT-BE98 will still win with gaming related feature like WTFast and ROG_first. I will say the gap is there but less than 3), similar to 2).

I would say he is Asus Fan.

Indeed, I am an fan of Asus consumer routers. I am also a fan of OpenWRT and pfSense using Mini PCs.

I started to learn more about home networking after upgrading Singtel Fibre plan from 500Mbps to 1Gbps back in Sept 2018, then wasting quite some money on different stuffs until I changed to use Asus RT-AX82U and virtual OpenWRT/pfSense on Mini PC (dual networks) in late 2020 and early 2021. Since then I am using dual networks -- Asus router on one network and then virtual OpenWRT/pfSense router on another network (with an AP).

Learning diferent aspects of Home networking becomes my hobby now. I spent like about S$2000 to play with 2.5G and 10G home networking over the past three years, with some of the stuff just for testing purposes.

I do not know much about programming but I am involved with various open source projects on the testing and technical support side since 2005. So I am familiar with Linux/macOS/Windows and a bit of BSDs. This may offer a bit of advantages in learning about home networking. Still I am for sure not an expert in home networking.

My github profile for reference.

Have tested BQ16's MLO with new firmware. Conclusion. Don't waste time. Still slower than 1 single 5GHz or 6GHz. I was connected to all 3 bands somemore. Wasted my time trying.

Sorry @kimsix, now I reigning champion 🏆
Hahaha my link rate around 4000 for this.

damn son, I going to move my minipc right next to eb810v, I will be back!

Does pixel 9pro xl uses 3x3 antennas if you can connect to 2.4+5+6? Wow its using samsung modem iirc, impressed

have updated to w11 24h2 and qualcomm NCM865 from msi herald can use only 5+6 mlo, but no problem with eb810v using its first and only firmware

Although my previous testing of XD6 vs AX86U-Pro actually have similar strength on covering my house.
Actually I would assume external antenna to be stronger than internal antenna of mesh wifi.

I have to agree with you when it comes to Asus. I am actually pretty biased aganst the whole ZenWiFi lines, even though I know people tend to like internal antenna more.

When it comes to TP-Link, then hard to say, because their Deco line (with Deco mesh, better than EasyMesh) and the latest WiFi 7 Archer flagships (with EasyMesh) both use internal antenna.

BTW, even I am an Asus fan, I am not that of a fan for Asus AImesh. There are many problems reported in this forum (but often the fault of user of using lower end main AImesh router). For multi-storey flats, I tend to recommend higher end Netgear Orbi as I do not think Asus AImesh is up to standard for those use cases. Of coure Ubiquiiti Unifi or TP-Link Omada may be better but they may need more maintenance in the long run.
