Bros huh,

Just got my ZenWifi BQ16 and setting it up. Noticed the MLO feature is not available with the current firmware. Anyone has it enabled by any chance? My firmware says latest but looks like it was from Jan 2024.

Thanks
The firmware to support MLO is out.

Asus Global site now lists many WiFi 7 routers not available in Singapore market, including dual band WiFi 7 routers without 6GHz band.
Not so sure when these models will come to Singapore, some of the models may not come at all though.

RT-BE58U (BE3600) dual band (no 6GHz band)
TUF-BE3600 dual band (no 6GHz band) -- available in China now
RT-BE88U (BE7200), dual band (no 6GHz band) -- available in China now, 10G capable
RT-BE92U, triband BE9700
RT-BE96U, triband BE19000, 10G capable

Asus ZenWiFi BD4 BE3600 dual band (no 6GHz band)
Asus ZenWiFi BT10 BE18000 triband, 10G capable

Asus has launched RT-BE86U in China at RMB1799. It has single 10G port, lacks the second SFP+ 10G port in RT-BE88U (RMB 2199, sometimes got promotion at RMB 1999). Some people may like the vertical form factor of RT-BE86U (same for RT-AC86U and RT-AX86U, I am still using RT-AX86U).

This will not be a China only model though, but there will be global version as well, just like RT-BE88U. On the other hand, not so sure if Asus Singapore will bring in RT-BE88U and RT-BE86U or not.

Same good BCM4916 CPU as the RT-BE88U and ROG GT-BE98, but only 1GB RAM.

Nice. I'm one of those who likes the vertical design, takes up less space on my table. I was also looking at ASUS RT-BE92U.

But I cannot recon to M1 new 2.5g plan until next year. Probably will support local sellers when I eventually get the new bb plan. Currently using ax86u too, zaku version.

Sadly no 6Ghz band for BE86U even for the global models outside China according to FCC documents:(

Asus China WiFi 7 offerings (no 6GHz), only TUF-BE6500 is specifically to China as of now. ROG八爪鱼7 seems to be a custom version of ROG GT-BE98 with the 6GHz band disabled (to be confirmed).

I own a be6500 and even though it’s non a premium router by any means but performance is as good as my AX86U pro. The firmware interface is not as responsive and reboots take longer.
Thing’s i knew before buying it:
Qualcomm based so no Merlin FW, but since Asus WRT for it is based off OpenWRT it can be supported by the official channel in the future based on popularity I think. I did check multiple articles and only hope it turns out that the SG version has the 6Ghz band included/enabled

Apart from build quality, 10G WAN/LAN port, 2.6Ghz CPU and native Asus WRT on the rt-be86u are the main differences in my opinion.

Speed tests from TUF-BE6500:
15PM

Device QOS

BE200 laptop

These tests were done in the same room as the router, but overall coverage and speed are very good throughout our 4 room condo unit. There's a difficult spot in our study where most routers struggle and this one can perform the same as the below in terms of coverage
AX11000 pro
AX86U pro
AX82U (speeds limited by 1G wan port)
This weak spot i can get get around 800/900 up/down.
The router does get as warm as the AX86U Pro but I usually run my routers with a USB fan to keep them cool.
The 2.5G lan ports are solid too but I found less speeds on the gaming port for some reason. Maybe future firmware would fix it as I'm using the second firmware release which fixed issues with 2.4G radio performance.

Have tested BQ16's MLO with new firmware. Conclusion. Don't waste time. Still slower than 1 single 5GHz or 6GHz. I was connected to all 3 bands somemore. Wasted my time trying.

Good one. It is good that you have Asus ZenWiFi BQ16 now.

What is the client you use? If using Windows and Intel BE200 (probably same for other chipset like Qualcomm QCNCM865 and MediaTek Filogic 380 MT7927), do not bother with MLO now. You have to wait for Windows 24H2 to be more widely available to see if MLO is useful in tems of speed boosting.

The main benefits of MLO is more in tems of reliability and latency now. Later when MLO is more mature (on the router and client side), then it may help on the speed with 5GHz-1/5GHz-2 or 5GHz/6GHz MLO.

I'm using my Pixel 9 Pro XL, 1 firmware before, it added MLO support. 1 firmware later, I try but too finicky and unstable. Ya, have to wait for it to be more stable. They revamped the web ui for the wireless portion in the new firmware. Looks more atas or polished now. They separated out the SSID/encryption and password portion and the channels portion. I like the new look. Btw, not cheap leh, $900 1 unit. Not much diff than my BE805 leh TBH. Thermals is better on the 805 somemore. This one you can feel the heat. Waiting for the RT-BE96U. Will skip the RT-BE86 this generation. My new fav is 6G band WiFi 7!

Did you upgrade your WiFi? @xiaofan

Nice phone and nice WiFi 7 routers.

You should be able to get pretty good WiFi 7 speed at close range for 6GHz band.

Maybe you want to post your 6GHz speedtest results here to see if you can break the record in this forum. 🤣

RT-BE96U not a downgrade from BQ16 ?
