Asus WiFi 7 and WiFi 6E routers

Hi xiaofan and lads,

Happened to chance upon Asus BT8 online, a cheaper and more accessible competitor to BT10.
Any idea if this would be a good option and if a router could pair w this? Will need 3 nodes and BT8 is only available in a two pack.

New Asus TUF-BE9400, triband BE9400, quad 2.5G ports. Looks like using the same Qualcomm IPQ5322 CPU as the older TUF-BE 6500, same 1GB RAM as well. Launch price is at S$329, probably not worth buying at this price.

The alternative is Asus RT-BE92U, triband BE9700, with one 10Gbe RJ45 port and quad 2.5G ports, Broadcom BCM6765 CPU, 1GB RAM. Usual price is at S$399 but you can probably get it around S$300 (dumped by M1 users).

Hello i am assuming that users of Asus routers might install the Asus router app. Anybody observe that the app keeps logging you out repeatedly? i have to keep logging in every now and then and the remote access capability is very flaky. i am using the app to remotely access the BE88U.

Not sure if it is a router firmware or router app problem. i am relying on DDNS provided by noip.com

I do not use the remote access capability (not that secure) and in general prefer the web UI and not the app (much less function).

You may want to try Asus DDNS to see if it works better?

The more secure way is to set up VPN Server on the router (eg: Wireguard) and then use VPN client (eg: Wireguard) on you app to carry out remote access using the Asus Router App when you are outside.

If your RT-BE88U supports Asus Instant Guard VPN server (IPSec based), then that is another good way as well. My Asus TUF-BE6500 China Version does not seem to support Asus Instant Guard.

Remote access established once setup with the "ASUS Router" app, only once in a bluemoon need to connect back that's all.
Instant Guard also works fine once setup too.

The problem may well be the pricing. Listed price of Asus ZenWiFi BT8 two-pack (triband BE14000, dual 2.5G ports, single 1G port) is at S$699. But you may be able to get the much better Asus ZenWiFi BT10 two-pack (triband BE18000, dual 10G ports, singel 1G port) at less than S$700 (dumped by M1 users), even though the list price is much higher at S$1299.

M1 10Gbps plan comes with Asus ZenWiFi BT10 two-pack for free.
M1 6Gbps plan can top up S$12 per month for Asus ZenWiFi BT10 two-pack (total top-up S$288).
Existing M1 users can get Asus ZenWiFi BT10 with the PWP offer, S$504 cash and carry.

Because of M1 bundling, lower end Asus WiFi 7 routers not bundled with M1 become not competitive at all. Same for TP-Link WiFi 7 routers.

Those who look at higher end ones (eg: Asus ROG GT-BE98 and Asus ZenWiFi BQ16) may not be affected though if the users are willing to pay for the router.

M1 Asus WiFi 7 router bundling:

• M1 3Gbps plan --> Asus RT-BE58U or TP-Link Archer BE230.
• M1 6Gbps plan --> Asus RT-BE92U or TP-Link Archer BE805, can also top-up S$12 per month for Asus ZenWiFi BT10 two-pack.
• M1 10Gbps plan --> Asus ZenWiFi BT10 two-pack

Asus ZenWiFi BT10 seems to be the most popular Asus WiFi 7 router now.

Asus Wifi 7 router with AFC support for the 6GHz band. Unfortunately AFC will not be available in Singapore anytime soon.

AFC will significantly improve the 6GHz coverage and far range speed.

I dunno much about this AFC thing. But if it's anything like the DFS for 5ghz, I'm definitely disabling for my router. DFS is a PITA for my home network

Hi xiaofan, sorry I wasn't clear in my question. I was looking for the optimized settings in the Asus login page like the one below (for example) for my Asus RT-BE58U. Not looking for the best settings but as long as it's faster and more stable than what it came as a default will be great.

No need to change the settings in general. At most separate 2.4GHz and 5GHz band.

If you have enabled MLO and it causes issues, then disable MLO.

Use the IoT network for legacy devices.

Other than the above, the default settings are usually good enough for most of the average users.
