My Great Wall card expires in 2 months' time, and BOC just send me a Chinese Cultural card as replacement.

Called the customer service, he was unable to activate for me, and sounded uninterested to provide further help. Just said go physical branch to do so.

Huh ? Still need to go branch lol. No instructions on how to activate ?

Mine expired already still no replacement so no choice had to go.

Suppose to be able to activate using phone pin, which I forgot.

I blame myself for not remembering ....

For the record, ever since I opened for BOC accounts, I have visited the branches only 2 times for the past 3 or so years.. first time to open account, second time when the physical token ran low on battery.

So it will be my third time for activation of the new card in the next few days...

You have no BOC credit card ? Need to go to branch to link.

BOC angpow very nice. Every year go and get.

Both the Great Wall and replacement Chinese Cultural card has the same card number, that is why the status is activated, which I believe its for the older card.

BOC online website is not as user friendly and efficient as the local banks.

my replacement Cultural card is different number bcos I changed at Branch

Branch staff said everything activated ... but I forgot to ask about online use :(

hate to have to call & talk to unhelpful CSO ...

I did not have to do anything. First thing I did when I walk out of branch is to go to ATM and withdraw $10 to make sure it works. No problem.

Did not check internet banking immediately. Now that you mention, I login and don't see it too.

But I could use it to pay AXS without problem. I get SMS immediately saying the funds has been earmarked.

No matter what, seems the best bet is to pay the physical branch a visit.

May not purpose plan a trip there, maybe do an ad-hoc visit when running other errands....

i just called and got a more helpful CSO

she said she is able to activate Debit Card over the phone

in BOC online, under Debit Card Services, got to click "ADD" to add the new Debit Card into my account

Same same. Able to use it online and rec SMS immediately. Seems my debit card is linked to SmartSaver but not SuperSaver.
Btw can we change debit card daily limit via app? Sometimes quite lazy to turn on my lappy just to change limits for big amount payment.

p/s SuperSaver interest for Dec just came in.

Wth,

I got a call from BOC asking me about my transactions. Be it spending , paynow in / out etc :

Have never seen something like this from other banks in my life . Is this a norm?

you're not the first and it is part of their AML, especially when ur spendings or number of transactions surge or in volumes, or constant in or out.
