I think beanstalk6 quite unfortunate to encounter this period, whereby 12306 implement the AI verification of ID. Perhaps some bugs at the App/ website still need to be ironed out.

But good thing is after booking can call 12306 to confirm la. But the cso quite guai lan 1. She just tell me that if tix can be issued by the app means can board which isnt very assertive also

Here is the solution ( starting 28 Nov 2023 onwards 12306.cn Launch real name validation for 'English" Language (via online AI Engine) ) thus user and passenger need to "Verified" before allow to purchase ticket.

1) Remove your Friend name from the passenger List in your app
2) Create an account for your passenger (aka your friends) , in the "Desktop Web Brower" . .12306.cn English Languages (As per what you did for your self ) -Noted IOS app will shown Blank at registration page , Android is fine , Desktop is fine.
3) Perform Real Name Validation for your friends / passenger . (Keep retry if you encounter system busy) .. once you see a upload successful . it need to wait a few minutes .
4) Log in your friend in the App . (IOS / Android) . he / she will see a message stating his name is verified ,
5) Re add your friend in your own account app passenger list . if you intend to purchase on behalf or seat selection.
6) Only Both yourself and Friend (Aka name is passenger list) shown verified .. you can then proceed to purchase .

That is what i did .
Note This only Apply for ENGLISH LANGUAGE .. it will not work if you switch to Mainland CHINESE version.

English app shows my name as verified but phone number as unverified. Even after performing otp it still shows phone unverified.

Chinese app shows my phone as verified.

There is a very detailed step-by-step guide (in Chinese) dated 30 Nov 2023 in the 12306 official website on

It mentions under 步骤3：等待审核 that it may take 3 to 5 working days for manual verification of ID after your submission to be successful. If unsuccessful, you will be informed of the outcome via the App.

Thus, if you are already in China, maybe a more efficient way is to visit a train station physically. You can either buy the tickets (if the queue is acceptable), or just queue at the 值班主任 counter to seek ID verification.

The passenger is myself, so I cannot remove. In fact I have completed the verification, except the phone number, which does not accept non-Chinese number. But email was sufficient previously. I am using the English language in the app.

Oh .. this is Bad .. seem like the system still have bug. your choice now is via "Trip,com" or Sort it out at the station.

I bought my first ticket from flyingpig. I shall visit the station officer before I board the train next week, else I will have another problem buying an onward ticket from my destination.

Base on your description (current Statues)

1) English App . Name verified. and HP unverified.
2) Chinese App . HP verified ..

Do you want to switch to the Chinese version and re submit the Real Name Validation . (it almost the same procedure upload 2 Photos. this is manual person doing the validating .. thus need 3 Days .) .. yes they are separated

My theory is
- You are struck in-between Chinese and English (Verification process)
- By right English app - Name and Email , Chinese app - Name and Hp .
- Since you already have your HP Verified, on the Chinese App . why not just complete on the real name as well . and move total to the Chinese version .

Or Remove the CN HP total ,, force the system back to English App (Name & Email) only .

Or Give up -slot out at the train counter windows .

I searched for 12306 in WeChat mini program. Which is the official mini program that allows buying of ticket? All that I came across allows only checking of ticket balance, but does not allow me to buy tickets.

The Android version of the official app can be found in App Store. Railway 12306 by 铁旅科技有限公司. Download app, enter all personal details and upload photo of one holding his own passport. In a day or two, they will return with a response on your application.

Don't bother using the website version because it is almost useless when logging on from overseas but the app works for me when I am not in China I was able to purchase and use the tickets with only local Chinese mobile number verified although identity unverified, i.e., "未实名认证" since I did not bothered to get it verified personally in a railway station.

Anyway, long story short, each time I had to verify my identity with my passport by going through the manual passage "人工通道" but it works.

This is what I have in the app now. It appears I need to verify with a Chinese number. It appears I cannot even buy the ticket first without getting verified. Previously, I know that one can buy the ticket first and get one's identity verified at the station control.

OK, yes i did have a chinese local number locked in and verified. By the way, the local number is not under my name but still works. See if you can either register for a local number yourself or use some local's spare number.

The cost of a local number can be as low as RMB 8 / month so keeping it forever is not a problem.

If having a Chinese number in addition to an email address is a new requirement, I am not going further to get myself verified. Perhaps when I am at the station, I shall visit station control to see if I can circumvent this requirement for future trips.

Yup, after submitting in-app for verification, head to the train counters and explain to them you require to verify.
I was told, unverified only restricted to 4 tickets for app purchases, thereafter manual purchase at stations.
Once verified, all restrictions lifted.

Yup, verifiy and then clarifying will be your best option to gain clarity.

I only had to rely on my mobile phone for my entire trip in China, cash usage was minimal. HSR tickets, purchases, food etc. all was through mobile.
Only had to use cash during the initial few 2-3 days when the verification etc. was pending.
My next trip probably going to bring my balance over again. lol

I believe some of us can help with HSR ticket purchases too in the worst case scenario that things do not work out properly.

I used Trip to purchase my ticket, straight forward and within 30 mins gotten confirmation and my preferred seat. I will be taking train this Thur too but different city.

May i ask , after a successful purchased from Trip . beside the information shown in the trip bookings .
Will there be any reference reflect on 12306.app with the same ticketing ID used ?

Or you can only use the trip.com information for boarding ?
Why i am asking because, i also purchase two critical ticket via trip . need to understand how to validated the booking officially .
