Planning to get this chromecast with google tv.
1) Is Disney+ app supported in this device?
2) Is the overall browsing experience smooth or laggy?

1) supported

2) dunno what's your expectations. You can watch some review videos from YouTube. To me it is good enough but maybe a little bit lag occasionally

If your current TV is still usable, just go with the Chromecast with Google TV.

But if you want the best AV experience then probably the TV with Android TV OS may be better especially when you are getting higher end devices.

On the other hand, even if you get a higher end Sony Android TV, you may still want to get the Chromecast 2020 (or other Android TV boxes) if you intend to side load apps from the Internet. It is much easier to factory reset the box than the TV. In that case you may want to use your Sony TV for stuff like Netflix and SingTel Cast with your "real" Google account, then use your Android TV boxes for things like IPTV subscription with a "not so important" Google account. This is good for security reasons.

And if you buy lower end Android TV, often the performance is lower than the Chromecast 2020.

I bought it for hbo and apple tv+ apps as my tv does not have them. But recently, these apps are released, so my chromecast is quite underused

Quite tough decision. If your TV is not too old then why spend so much? Chromecast with Google tv is about $90 only and is transferable to any TV in the house. If u subscribe to Viu, then Sony TV should be able to support this app natively. I sideloaded viu app to my chromecast, which is a little troublesome.

If you only use apps like Netflix, HBO and Apple TV+, and if your TV has already built-in apps for these kind of streaming services, then you do not need an Android TV box.

Just an example, Samsung Smart TV and LG Smart TV are not that smart and ofthen it is a good idea to get an Android TV box to go with them, but if you are only using the apps it already has, then no need to get an Android TV box.

Do u guys turn off the power of the chromecast? If I don't turn it off, the device seems not shut down even after I have press the lower left power button of the remote controller.

However if I switch off the power, the next day it doesn't connect to my WiFi router. I had to restart the chromecast manually via settings.

Mine is LG, that made me buy the chromecast. But recently they upped their game by releasing hbo and apple tv apps so I started using less of my chromecast

Mine LG but i lost the remote controller and the smart tv might not be working anymore.
For me, I only want to watch Netflix, Disney+ and my YouTube premium. I think Chromecast with Google TV will be fine for me based on my use cases?

Yes Chromecast 2020 is good for your use case if you think your LG does not work properly any more.

That being said, maybe you want to check first if your LG can still be used to install the apps from LG Content Store. You can try to install the LG TV Remote App on your mobile phone.

Mine is the old model. I bought an universal remote and it's able to power on and off and change input, just not able to switch to smart tv mode.
If that's the case, Chromecast with Google TV seems ideal for me.

Any idea how to have a workaround on this?
