For those planning to buy car. Here is some information for you. The COE price will be at current levels. This is because the car dealers is using tricks to ensure they get the order. Here is how they do it.

The mark up a lot a lot for the car. At the showroom, the buyer will negotiate for better price. The sales executive will claim the price after discount is Base on COE $45k or lesser. (You are getting special deal) it's fake.

When you squeeze them more. They just act stressful. But in their heart. They are thinking how to make you pay the deposit.

Finally after rounds of offer. The buyer is offer a deal with 15% discount Base on COE $45k. With 6bids. The buyer place deposit.

When the next exercise bidding. the agent bid $63k COE and secure the COE. Then tells buyer they absorb the difference.

So beware.
One way is check the price of the car origin. Add 200% government tax. Then agent need at least 40 to 50% mark up and add COE price. Be smart. Don't regret later.

Until there is a change in policy, COE prices will trend downwards. How low will it go, really depend on economic situation.

The TDSR and 50% loan, 5 yr DP are the reasons.

If you already know the cost price. You can negotiate your way. Else you are being lead by the dealers. These sales executive job is to entice you with your deposit. Therefore, coe price will be at 55k to 63k range for the next 2.5months.
But if there is less booking. It will automatically drop. Demand vs supply.

COE will trend down until the bumper crop of COEs thin out sometime in 2018, barring any policy changes.

Between now and then, you may still see some bidding ending at higher COEs. But overall, is still downward trending.

We are talking about thousands of COEs released.

50% DP could be around 50k for basic unit.

With TDSR, if you are heavily leveraged, you might not get the loan approved.

Many cash rich but not that many also.

with the poor and unreliability of the MRT/Bus, taxi, more and more people are going to buy cars to overcome the problem.

COE price can only go upward.

In fact, the current COE prices ish lower then some 20 yrs ago, when it hit S$100K.

when moi bought my Honda Accord in yrs 1988 or 89 (can remember the actual yrs), it cost moi S$128,888.00.

Too cheap liao. I still can buy 4 additional cars. Use me as bench mark, must up coe price to 1 million then confirm no road congestion problem.
