The man who ate bak kut teh in public while on a Stay-Home Notice (SHN) during the COVID-19 pandemic in Singapore was identified as Alan Tham Xiang Sheng.
He was sentenced to six weeks in jail for breaching his 14-day SHN.
Tham had returned to Singapore from Myanmar on March 23, 2020, and was served with the SHN requiring him to stay home at all times until April 6. Instead of going straight home, he visited several public places, including a food court, a money changer, and another hawker centre where he had his bak kut teh dinner, before buying groceries and returning home late that night. He also posted about his meal on social media, which drew public attention and led to an investigation.
