i am curious about uploading photos to FB. does it consume a lot of download data? I thought it was only upload data.

I was uploading some photos via my LTE hotspot to FB - about 20 photos uploaded and the data spiked by about 300mb during this period. I checked the data usage before uploading and immediately after uploading to be sure.

i was not downloading or using the internet at that time for other purposes except for uploading the photos. is that normal for so much data to be consumed when uploading?

Data consumed is measured by the transfer of data via the data connection. So this means uploads and downloads count toward the quota.

Saw this in the Terms and conditions:

5.3 Customers on bundled mobile data plans shall be charged as followed:

(i) Usage within the bundled data shall be computed in blocks of 100KB even if less than 100KB is used; and

(ii) Excess data usage beyond the bundled data and Pay Per Use local data service shall be charged at a minimum of $0.50/100KB session.

Is this a new way of calculating? Prior to this month I still had data charged in 10kb or 12kb. Now everything is 100kb minimum (5 June onwards)

Even if I send 1 whatsapp message also will get charged for 100kb? Seems super unfair.

I have called Singtel and asked for an explanation but the CSO blur, cannot understand what I'm asking so he will check and get someone to call back.

If they have indeed changed the billing terms they should at least have the courtesy to inform us.

My interpretation is that the final data bill charged is rounded up to the nearest 100kb. That would be the logical interpretation. If not, 10 whatsapp messages are going to cost ~1MB. No way. :s22:

I think you're probably right but the way the data is logged in the mybill website has indeed changed and no longer contains small amounts like 10k, 12k etc. now minimum 100k.
I hope the CSO will call back and clarify.

if the android users are not seeing a surge in data usage while on 4G, it's probably due to the phone you're using.

I think this kind of calculation from Singtel, need to look into it.

I also feel like i being over charged. as I rarely over 2GB of data for so many years with Singtel, yesterday i kenna an SMS i already exceed.

I feel the warning SMS shld be done b4 the limit is reach, rather than SMS after we need to pay the $5 something.

These are two extracts from the same bill. For sure there has been a change in the block size. But I have no idea what that means for users. It doesn't necessarily mean there's overcharging.

Kns. Looks like I'm not the only one, exceeded the data cap 1 week into the new contract month. I straightaway call and kpkb the Singtel hotline and demand their supervisor to call me back and give me a satisfactory answer. Super dulan if they rly changed the billing system and nv inform us.

From my experience with Singtel, you may also want to write in through the website's feedback form, they will usually get back to you in 2-3 days.

1 Whatsapp msg = 100k
10 msg = 1MB
10,000 msg = 1GB?

This is dumb as certain msg maybe 50bytes only, not even kilobytes

better switch back to good old SMS then

to be fair, that may not be how a "session" is defined. but that's something Singtel needs to clarify.
