We understand your concerns and kindly allow us to share with you how the data is calculated. When your smartphone is on, the applications will be running in the background (E.g Push emails
and in-app notification) and consumed data. Data usage is therefore collated base on any of the
following criteria:

- Total data used in 8 hour block
- When customer hits 20MB
- Customer / Device initiated. Eg Should you switch off data or close all apps.

The total usage will then be total and offset against the mobile plan bundled data in the monthly
bill.

Common activities such as sending a photo, streaming a video and surfing the web
consume an average of 100kb to 4Mb. Therefore, a 100kb charging block makes more sense for
today's data usage patterns.

We have been progressively upgrading our 3G and 4G customers to enjoy this higher speed
of 42Mbps and 150Mbps at no extra charge since January this year. The charging block applies
to all mobile lines.

so, what does that mean? they charge in 100kb blocks based on every 8hr usage?

Thanks for the update. 8 hour blocks sound fair enough to me.

i have to agree on this thread.
with this new this 100KB charging, my current data usage is now 2.7GB for 10days now.

Same usage pattern. I am on the old 12GB data plan. My monthly average for the past 18months is around 2GB to 4GB usage only.

My last month bill (May-June26) shows 9.5GB usage. !!!
Nothing new on my ios apps..

srsly idk what singtel trying to do,
they always gang up against singaporeans
first is forcing 4G LTE plans with low coverage to make us get 2Gb instead of 12Gb now its removal of non data plans
i sign up lines for my parents who are seniors,
i just realised they removed the non data plans -_-?
they expect everyone to be using data for whatever reason??????????????
so freaking pissed, as far as im concerned only M1 right now have non data plans zzz i freaking hate this massive telco oligopoly

back to topic after venting,
My current data usage surge is abnormal for some reason, im guessing cos andriod uses data even when idling? i heard from friends ppl who experience this kind of phenomenon is cos iOS update manually, while andriod apps u can update automatically, wait till iOS7 then everything will be automatic

I think there's still the classic plan available. Voice & SMS only with no bundled data. $25 per month before GST. It's not advertised but if you ask for it, they can offer that.

In iOS 7 you can disable the automatic app update feature.

Mine also. Called customer service, they will investigate. Asked them to email me the findings.

Can ask for data listing for the particular month from telco?

so means if I use 30KB within 8hours, they will round up to 100KB

and if I use Whatsapp 50 times during that 8 hours, they will 'collate' the total and charge. say 30kb per message, they will charge me 50 x 30 = 1500KB

is that right?

Yup yup. Data usage has been abnormal for quite a while. I barely hit 1gb every month during the 12gb era. Now I'm hitting 1gb in a week. Wonder what Singtel is doing....

Maybe because their LTE actually works, we bother to wait for pages to download. Last time on 3G, after 20 seconds of waiting and Safari doesn't show anything, I just close it and wait till I move somewhere else and try my luck again.

I also notice my data usage is higher (i.e. the number shown in the SingTel app). My usage pattern increased a little, but still no reason to believe it went up by so much. I actually nearly reached my cap of 3GB last month and I'm not even an regular video streamer. I usually barely reach 1GB.

I was told that LTE is faster than wifi. So at home U on wifi but never Off the LTE setting, your phone is using LTE and not wifi . So end up u are watching video streaming on LTE since it is faster of the 2.

In some cases, yes LTE is faster than Wifi.

However, ios will always lock on to wifi, than to cellular data.

Bottom line when u r home, off LTE and cellular data lah.

Facing the same issue.
Surge from monthly usage of 3-5GB to 23GB (last month)!
I am speechless...
