Info received from DBS on rebalancing of digiPortfolio. Just sharing...

Here are the DBS Investment team’s views on the ETF-based digiPortfolios looking ahead:

  • Over 3Q21, developed market equities continued to outperform developing market equities, with Japan as the outperformer. Asian equities however, especially China, continued to see downside pressures on concerns over ongoing regulatory tightening and Chinese real estate developer Evergrande’s fallout.
  • For the Global portfolio, we had further reduced our global bond allocation in the beginning of the third quarter in anticipation of the US Federal Reserve’s intent to taper its quantitative easing policy. This benefited the portfolio as the Fed indeed talked about it at the September FOMC meeting, resulting in the US 10-year Treasury yield rising to 1.48%.
  • For the Asia portfolio, our allocation in Indian equities benefited the portfolio as India continued to rally strongly and remains as one of the best performing Asian market in the third quarter as well as year-to-date. However, this was unfortunately negated by our China equity allocation.
  • We believe the Fed will remain very deliberate in communicating their intent and roadmap, and financial markets will be on stronger footing amid a continued zero-bound rate policy stance.
  • On China, we remain hopeful as China has solid long-term economic fundamentals and its stock market has corrected to attractive GARP (Growth-At-Reasonable-Price) valuations, in our view.

Huh? How come? Digi portfolio is just ETFs and all ETFs have done very well since last year.

Need to wait about 50 days for it to be credited and not sure if will clawback if those investments are redeemed before that. Also all their UTs , even the lowest risk bonds, are on downward trend lately. ETF digiportfolio Asia lowest risk also at -4% even after holding for about 3 months. Shall skip this round 😂

My sep investments took about 30 days. If you read the terms for sep promo, target date was also 30-31 days

But the oct promo they revised the terms to longer date. Good luck tracking. 😉 not so worth the effort after deduct $8.20 sales charge imo.

For digiportfolio, still negative $9 on slow and steady asia. Jialat.. and haven’t minus management fees. Only do it if u in for long term and not just for the promo imo

It is better to DIY the ETFs in the Digiportfolio and combine the Global portfolio and the Asia portfolio:
1) Choose MBH for the fixed income
2) Choose the global ETFs for the equity portion.

You will do much better than Digiportfolio for free.

I think though this is etf, time of entry is important. Anyway the underlying assets is still stocks. It will be a lousy investment even if the stock is good but enter at wrong time.

For this investment, the time period has to be long term.

Caution, nothing is free. Make sure you dont kill yourself in transaction fees of your brokerage firm. In my experience and using dBS Vickers, where it charges on minimum $25 per transaction. This could have easily cost me $350 in my current digiportfolio now, however from its site, that im charged only with $3.33 as of this writing. I also noticed that if you DIY < $1k per month, the transaction fees will take a huge chunk of your overall position. Btw, if you do rebalancing in your DIY portfolio, that will also cost you some transaction fees, unlike digiportfolio. Obviously you have more control on your own DIY portfolio than your dBS digitport. So weigh things out and track all your numbers. See which one suits your strategy or needs.

Yeah, but DBS vickers shouldnt be the benchmark, there are cheaper brokers like interactive brokers and fee per transaction is like $2 and FX conversion is also at $2-3 but with Digiportfolio you end up converting at much higher spreads.

But end of the day, what is most important is you start investing. There is a saying that good beats perfect. For someone if Digiportfolio lets them start on the journey of discplined investing, then it is very good.

Nobody ask you to use Vickers, you could have used IBKR which has much lower transaction fees. There is no need to do rebalancing, you just need to change your monthly allocation to change the ratio. Digiportfolio will do fine for those who want an easy way out and fees are not high.

Also regular investing is important. Most people enter when prices are high and then when there is market fall, people get scared and stop investing, then again when market bounces back they invest at highs. Most retail investors are not able to invest regularly in a disciplined manner. If they do, they will do very well.
