XPS M1210 with some upgrades most likely. I thought of getting the nVidia Go 7400 graphics card, but decided against it (don't game much) and use the money saved for HD & RAM upgrade.

As long as you can prove the root of the problem is not cause by the upgraded part, they will has to honour the warranty.

If you get it now, the upgrade pack is free. You'll need to pay for shipment though.

some of e systems come preinstalled wif vista hp...

I got a quote for Transcend RAM 1 Gig

200P DDR333 SODIMM (PC2700/64Mx8/2.5-3-3). Price $286 (+gst)

Its $100 more expensive than the Kingston DDR333 ram.

Anyhow heard about Transcendusa ram?

I'll be running it on my old Dell 510m.

At the USA website- its selling for US$178- so selling at S$286 its cheaper. But whats the diff between this and the Corsair etc.. which is selling for much less.

I checked out the Dell website and they recommended the Kingston Ram too - which at $144 seems a whole lot more cheaper.

Or would you recommend the DDR400 ram?

Gave them (Memory World) the Brand/Model of computer and they'll give you the correct RAM; no guess work or bull ****.

They do charge a premium.

Sorry one last question. I have the old bogstandard ProMos 256mb DDR333Mhz 2700u ram- should I still stick the spare one in the 2nd slot and run 1gig + 256mb?

The new Transcend RAM DDR333 is a 200 pin 1gb SODIMM PC2700/64Mx8/2.5-3-3)
The old one is a Pro Mos 256mb DDR 333MHz CL2.5 PC2700U. I don't know how many pins it has.

I remember a techie telling me a long time ago not to mix Ram chips - esp. from different manufacturers.

yes. i called up the dell helpdesk n was informed that 1gig extra ram delivered (after the computer purchase) will cost $380 - $370. The staffer also said the warranty wasn't void if I just bought new ram from elsewhere and fitted it in. anyhow, u can always keep your old ram and plug it back in if there is any trouble prior to returning the computer back to dell for repairs, if it does stop working in the future.

I have the Dell 630m and was hoping whether some of the bros can help me with the following questions:

1. Is there somewhere in SLS where I can get a backlighted keyboard for my 630m? I've the USB light but it's damn troublesome....

2. Am on 512Mb DDR2 533 Rams. What make or model Ram is recommended for 2 X 512Mb, preferably with lifetime warranty? Part no. if any would be much appreciated.....
