I couldn't justify the cost premium for 2 sticks of 512mb notebook ram as they get exponentially expensive after 256mb. Plus I would have to throw/sell the original 256mb it came with. Plus this was meant for a portable solution, so its not like I'm running multiple torrents. That task I leave to my desktop.

And I took out the stock 30 or was it 40gb harddrive that came with it. The stock was advertised as a 4200RPM drive on the dell site, but I discovered it was a 5200RPM travelstar model. Got the 7200RPM separately from Dell. Doesn't affect the batt life much.

And yes, got them in the states.

I bought my 1GB (512x2) PC3200 SO-DIMM for my i9100 from fuwell at $3xx, very good buy in my opinion, plus its Corsair with lifetime warranty. Buying/upgrading RAM from Dell is a little voerkill, but I realise now its cheaper, I upgraded my i9300 RAM from 512MB to 1GB which is still cheaper than buying from SLS, guess Dell realise they are offering RAM upgrades at prices that cuts the throat... But kudos to Dell for always lowering their upgrades prices while maintaining a baseline for their base systems.

Dell Inspiron 6000

Just got it this week!

It came with an 1.6Ghz Senoma-specced CPU + Mboard, 512MB DDR2 RAM, 80GB HDD, 128MB X300, 8X DVD+RW, 802.11a/b/g WIFI, all in for less than S$2400, including 1 year complete cover.

I thought it was a steal.
I tried to do the same config for my father, he was very interested after seeing it, and the price is now more than S$2800...

Too bad I could not include the bluetooth module when I ordered. They told me it was not available then.... but now it is.

Anyway, this is my second Dell laptop.
My previous 4100 is now serving as my home entertainment centre. It plays DirectX8 games (dedicated Nvidia card) and DVD movies.

I love my DELLS!

Yea, I like Dell too.

My i9300 is my second Dell laptop, first is the i9100, I have the fetish for performance notebooks cause I'm frequently not at home, as such my gaming station can go wherever I go. :p

Yea, will post some benchmarks when I have to time to download those 3D Mark etc...

Never had the habit of benchmarking my notebook.

I trust in my judgement during a game play, having numbers to tell me are my games going to be smooth or not usually doesn't do much help other than telling me my notebook can churn xxx amount of numbers now and then.

I prefer hands on experience and reading up the web for the performance numbers of the notebook.

:)

Also for the GeForce Go 6800, its brute power is more than twice that of Mobility Radeon 9700, in certain scenarios even 3 times, wheras GeForce Go 6800 Ultra is twice that of GeForce Go 6800... The GeForce Go 6800 has the equivalent power of the desktop GeForce 6800GT, so you'll roughly know where i9300 stands.

:p

Ok, just got my i9300.. my jaw dropped... the 17" screen is as good as the SONY Vaio 17" I saw at Sony Gallery at Funan... and the build of the i9300 is solid... much more solid then my previous i9100... And most importantly its LIGHt.. 3kg only~! But the adapter this time round is a Liteon engineered adapter.. hmm... Reinstalling the OS now as I dun like the default istllatio nwhich includes tons of I don't use softwares...

Yet to know about that, but I'm not bothered by that as I usually upgrade my notebook every year. Even if its upgradable I don't think I'll wanna stick with Dothans for long, eyeing on the Yothans, dual core Pentium mobile CPUs.
