Yup why not, its based on the standard computer industries parts.

In fact, any Dell Desktop users using the 8200, 8300, 8400 (ie the higher casing) will find that the casing is a very well built casing. (no screws need). Plus, its built to open like a clamshell and easy for upgrading and modding.

Please check facts before telling this guy to go ahead and spend $2000.
NO u will not be able to change motherboards as all Dell motherboards have proprietary form factors (screw slots etc)
U can change CPU.
U cannot change HSF, the fastening clips are different.
U cannot change Powersupply (This one I'm not so sure for 8X00 series, but in the earlier models cannot)
U cannot overclock the CPU as the bios has no options nor can u change ram voltage etc...

I am an Inspirion 700M user. I choose Dell because it is a good brand. Is an USA brand although products are made in malaysia. Much better than other famous brands whose products are made in china and philipines. I think Dell has improved the customer support these few yrs. 4 Stars to Dell

Yes, Dell motherboards have different screws slots, that i agree. But changing them is no problem considering that so many websites are offering dell parts cheap. A good place to check is ebay.com where they do international shipping.

Things like DVDRW are all industry standards so your Dell Dimensions would be able to use any Pioneer, TDK, Iomega, etc DVDRWs in the future.

Anyway, who cares about changing the motherboard and Powersupply, as you can just add on 3 yrs warranty, and Dell will change these parts for you for free for 3 yrs.

the coupons idea started online in US.

In SG, so far there was only once so far that coupons have been used. Dell will announce when there are coupons.

Or some company's really big MNCs have employee's purchase that can only buy dell, and Dell will give them coupons to use so they can still order online and customize but ulitmately will get a lower price.

What I'm saying is, buy the 3 years warranty which covers parts and service, so that warranty is ALL covered by Dell. Dun even need to go here and there to RMA yourself.

And yes, if you get a good deal with Dell, esp on the high end systems.. eg 925XE chipset systems, its even cheaper than SLS.

A few brudders here will be able to prove that.

But if you note the original question you responded to, he was asking if he could change the powersupply, motherboard, dvd drive etc...

You answered yes when in fact u can't change most parts unless u consider replacing them with the same dell components "upgrading". I think he was asking of possible upgrades with run of the mill stuff. Dell has a great warranty, but warranty does not cover upgrades right... Also u can't overclock or do most specialty customisation that requires standard ATX config boards. The Dell 8400 also comes with just 1 ide channel instead of two, so if u have two optical drives and 1 PATA harddrive, u will have to buy an IDE card. Also, if u buy a 8400 with a X300SE, and buy a higher powered 6800 or other card later, u will have to press F1 to clear an error message everytime u boot up. Not really a big deal but it drives some crazy.

U basically told him go ahead and spend $2000 with wrong info.
I love Dell but u should be careful of your statements.

Hi I dropped my Dell laptop and my lan card got the end of the knock. The result was that the keyboard became raised, the motherboard looked jammed out of alignment. the warranty is over. So I'll like to repair it. Is it better to repair somewhere else or at Dell? How do I report to Dell for repair? Thanks.
why dont u post a pic to show us the damage.
