good deal!

my 6400 had the exact specs minus the X1400 but i upgraded the warranty 2 a 3 year 1

all for 1580

coore 2 duo on the cheap...so far so good...

hi guys,

i ordered my 6400 thru their hotline sales rep on 19/09 (mon) morning and got it on 22/09 (fri) noon. i must say i m very happy with their efficiency and its a plus point that i am able to check my order status online.

was poundering for quite a long while of which laptop to get as my budget was around 1.8k to 2.2k..quite a lot of choices i must admit..hp compaq,dell,acer,benq,sony etc realized those that are cool looking ones are overprized when you looked at their specs and i prefer bigger screen so i opt for specs over designs and i m very happy with my purchase..so far so good

my specs are as follow;
core2 duo t5500 1.66ghz, win xp pro, 1gb ram, 80gb hdd, 15.4 with truelife, dvd rw, 256mb ati x1400. got it around 1,800+

i went to hunt down the sales guy at the dell counter this afternoon.
he checked for me and said it would arrive on friday, friday night.
i hope he doesn't tua me.
or i'll make him deliver it on saturday morning ahwahahha.

Actually it might be better to arrange a weekday (except Friday), day time delivery, especially when you buy during a show and they have a lot of sets to deliver. They outsource the delivery service and that company sometimes screw up.

My own bad experience in the past, I had a Friday night delivery (supposed to be like 6 to 10pm), waited till 1am, nothing show up, no call, and couldn't contact anyone at Dell over the weekend. After many calls on Monday, eventually they hunt down the delivery guy, he say raining lah, traffic jam lah, cannot finish all delivery for that day lah, don't have mobile phone lah (when they arrive later, I noticed there are 3 guys in the truck, hard to belive none of them have mobile phone).

Anyway, all my other transactions with Dell went smoothly and arrived on time. But every once in a while, I just want to advice people to have Mon-Thu, day time delivery, if you can make it. Let your maid or someone receive it, it doesn't matter, cos they just drop the box(es), they don't let you open up to check, test for dead pixel or anything. Just need to match the label on the box with the delivery order. You can check later and call Dell if any problem.

hmm, I'm going to receive the package this evening between 7-10pm.
Thats so much earlier than I expected.
4 working days.
thats impressive.
good customer service too.
short response time through email inquiries.

at least the staff assure me that it will come on time, and they actually try to make that happen, unlike many other Sales service support.

Kudos to Dell, another satisfied customer on the way.

I need some help!!...

i have dell 700m inspiron which i bought last year.

how do i noe whether the "fan" is in working condition. this is because sometimes it will stop when i on my lappy..

is the fan "programmed" tat way (i.e termostat, after certain temperature it will switch on).???

this is because as far as i noe,PC fan switch on everytime u on the computer.

is there any way for me to adjust the fan speed???

Run your DELL diagnostic disk; I think there's a test for the fan.

The fan is temperature controlled. Will not run when temperature is low.

battery power

hi guys, 6400 user here.
is it normal for a 6-cell standard batt to last 3 hrs?
i upgraded to a Core2Duo 1.83 Ghz CPU and X1400 which is different from the default specs, so does this means the battery will last less longer than what the web reviews say abt this model lasting 4-5 hrs? for the 3 hrs battery life, im strictly only using it to surf web, no playing videos or games.

Try the Maximum Battery (QuickSet) settings, you should be happy if you get 3.5 to 4 hours.

thanks, yup alr using the Maximum Battery quickset setting.
did a test and the 6-cell batt lasted me exactly 3 hrs & 10 mins..
considering that i didn't even watch any videoclips/DVDs nor play any games, it seem to fall below what mag/web reviewers rated the battery life to be. got a feeling that those software that they used to test (MobileMark or something like that) only simulate "normal" use, instead of having a real person surf web/type MsWord/Excel on it til it the batt conks out!

6 cell gives 3.25 hours

9 cell gives (3.25/6)*9=4.8 hours

640m = 14.1" LCD

just to add, from what i just read from mags/web, having a dedicated graphics card will sap more power compared to an intergrated one. the other culprit (as mentioned above) is the display or specifically its brightness level. i for one can't tolerate anything less than 2/3 brightness, esp outdoor surfing, so if you can tahan half-brightness setting then can add in another 15 minutes or so. Sony has certain notebook models which has dual graphics - both an integrated and dedicated one which switches automatically depending on how u use yr notebook, that wld be a really nifty solution, but at a cost of course.

just to go off-topic, anyone else thinks Dell shld do away with the "white framing" at the sides? if there's a way to change it to silver i'll gladly do so!
