i see, u dont like the softwares that they installed for you ? after formating, u install back using their recovery cd or the xp cd they provide for u ?

1. Reinstall Windows with CD provide by DELL

2. Almost all the drivers are on the Driver and Utilities CD

Note: DELL do not use Recovery CD.

My 640m came this morning. Would like to know whether is it safe to disable the following through msconfig:

1) Dell Support
2) Dell QuickSet

Thanks

Don't disable QuickSet; you'll need it to control battery, network card and icon size on computer.

Thanks.
Trying to accustom myself with the 14.1" WXGA. Had been using the standard 15.4" all this while.

The typing sound of the keyboard is much softer than my previous lappy.

I only use quickset so that I get the overlay when I am adjusting my volume and brightness

The result of the features can be easier substituted by other softwares

Eg. NHC and Intel Wireless Pro

CD-Rom? The optical drive that came with the laptop is a 8X internal DVD writer.
Or are you refering to the CDs that came with the package? If it is, then I can only let you know tonight cos I did not bring the lappy out today.

Thanks.

You can get more info about the DVD/CD-ROM drive from:

Control panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager

It's most probably a NEC DVD +-RW ND-6650A

The optical drive is a Optiarc DVD+-RW AD-5540A.
Optiarc is a joint venture company by Sony and NEC.

Hi all. Im interested in getting a A8JN, but wonder if u guys have any recomendations into purchasing from whichever outlet? Microwave seems to be giving good offer. Btw, can adding till 2gb ram boost better performance with weaker graphics such as Geforce Go7300(up to 256 turbo cache) from what A8JN provide. Plan to use this labtop for study and light gaming.
