M1330 user here.

I'm getting around 45C idle on both cores, but thats probably because I undervolted. Maximum was about 60C.

GPU is an entirely different story. 66C on idle, 93C on full load with games like Crysis and CoD. Its quite scary to run your GPU near critical temps.

Any ideas to lower to temps? I'm considering the copper mod on the notebookreview forums, but I'm afraid it might void my warranty. I just got this back in August 08.

Hi,
Got mine in late Sep 2008 from USA.
My idle core is around 40 C.
Running defrag + video + surfing and IM chats hit 78 C max. Idle = 66 C average.
Didnt do gaming on my local yet. Not sure if Fifa Online 2 is a good gauge.

I chatted with Dell USA online. You may want to try.
They offered themal cooling pads as an option, but its not free.

Still observing and trying to stress my system.
Barring the GPU and a keyboard which was replaced, it is pretty good so far.

I think Dell community moderators read this forum.
Hey, how about some response? :p

Oh, what do you mean thermal cooling pads? Those installed inside the notebook?

I know ORTHOS is a good program for stressing CPU, and for GPU you can just use 3dMark.

I've replaced a faulty card reader, and thats the only problem I've had with this hot(no pun intended) laptop.

lol dell consultant emailed their feedback saying that this graphics card are not "high-end" cards like xps versions. so have to expect temps to be higher than xps versions.

huh?
Dell support policy is good relatively. But the support team is really bad at times.
So high end cards like XPS (mine) has a badly designed heat sink problem (inherent) for free.

Err, think its the same as what you mentioned.
Yeah installed inside the notebook.

Anyway, the repairman is coming to repair my palm rest.
Anyone knows if the Vista and Core 2 Duo stickers will be replaced too? :p

I will ask him what is the normal operating temperature for the GPU, and if it warrants a change as well.
Keep you all posted.

Anyone else with XPS 1330 and GPU temp?

Thanks.

the sticker it will not be replaced, u will be given only a new clean palm rest. they do allow u to remove your existing sticker and paste it over to the new one. however, only if u have imba skills on removing the sticker in pristine condistion, then it will look nice. if not like mine it will be chiu on 1 corner. then when u paste it back u will feel uncomfortable cause 1 end keeps jutting out.

please update me on the normal temps again thanks alot

Hey mike,

Actually, the GPUs in the XPS versions - I, personally speaking - wouldn't consider them to be rated as "High-End" of sorts like the M1330 or the M1530. An 8400M GS is just an above average entry level card GPU and an 8600M GT 256mb GDDR3 is considered an average card, just that its marked with a GDDR3 memory chip. High end cards are like the 8800M GTX in the M1730 in SLI motion.

Also, the Inspirons, like mine though midranged, the temps rarely go higher than most of the M1530s users have experienced. :) 65*C max overclocked.

By the way hows your temps going for your Dell Latitude D630's NVS 135M GPU? :)

Need help with my XPS M1210

I'm using Dell XPS M1210.

I got problems on my LCD screen (there's purple lines all over the screen), as well as the VGA output. I plugged in monitor, it doesn't show anything on my monitor. I tried 2 different monitors but to no avail.

Anyone know of any place or anyone that provide good service at a reasonable price?

I know dell's service is gonna be expansive, so i didn't bother to try. Also, since my warranty is over, doubt they give a darrrnnnn about me.

Sounds like you got a burnt out graphics card. Running on 8400M gs? Try calling DELL and ask for a replacement. I heard from NBR forums that DELL extended the gpu warranty by one year, although it might apply to those in US only. Doesn't hurt to try!

Dell is having a roadshow at Funan this weekend 16 to 18 Jan.
On sale are the new Inspiron 13, 14, Studio and XPS series.
You can even buy from Dell Direct, there is a booth for you to purchase right off the Dell website if you are eyeing the Studio XPS.

We are also running a trade-in program for Dell, so bring your old laptops over for a quick assessment and discount when purchasing a new one!

Hi all,

Im the owner of a Dell Inspiron 640m. Recently it has had a spate of crashes whenever i am using it. The crashes appear to be random and not because of stress on the com, crashing most frequently when i am in firefox or microsoft word. Dell's technicians have replaced the motherboard and hard drive, and yet the problem is not yet resolved. Also, i have run the com in safe mode for 2 hours, no crashes. Can anyone suggest any applications or tests i can run to narrow down the problem? Please pardon these noob questions as i am hardly tech savvy. :s31:

guys, what are the dell's warranty terms?

a part spoil 3 times warant for a exchange anot?
Hmm..from my experience with my DELL deskstop...it really depend on how u request it and what is the part in-question.

last round, my desktop rams kept getting error, i jus call them to give me a new set* and fix myself. coz normally where got "repair" rams such thing?

*note that DELL need not really give you a complete new set as can be refruished, their SLA is a working set.
